Location: Shawano, Wi | For the guys that have this rod how does it throw pounders. The lure rating of the rod is 4 oz lower than pounder. Would hate to get one and find out it will break if I throw pounders with it. |

Location: St Paul, Minnesota | I think it's best suited up to Mag size Bulldawgs. I felt that it was slightly underpowered for Pounders. Then after I got and hucked pounders with my Thorne Bros Predator XH and XXH I felt even further validated in my belief.
To me the Big Dawg is a great medium rubber rod (up to Mag Bulldawg size), great for popping Red October Tubes, and a great jerk bait rod.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | I love it for pounders, I've got two. As with most weight ratings on St Croix rods it is under rated. I think the Big nasty might cast them a little better because it isn't as fast as the BD but the BN doesn't fish as well as the BD because of the length - IMO. |

Location: mercer wi | I thought the big dawg was way under powered for pounders until I started letting out a couple feet of line between tip and leader. Now I love it. I don't really throw them that much because I feel old these days but still do on certain waters.
It's a lob cast. Takes a little practice but once you get it down, it's all butter |

Location: Western U.P. | The Big Dawg is rated to 12 oz lures, and since most Pounders are actually about 13 oz actual wt, it's not that much of a stretch to use this rod for these lures. A heavier action rod, may be a better choice for long term, but this is good rod for up to pounders. The Alpha Dawg Pounder is 15 oz, and I believe that this is the heaviest "Pounder" bait. |

| It is not only in the cast, i feel the BD i isn't stiff enough, with slow pull pause its great, but if you want to rip a pounder violently in shallow water, a stiffer rod i much preferred. |

Location: Michigan | Big Dawg is a great rod for pounders! I originally used a Musky Innovations Monster Magnum rod and really like that too. When switching over to the BD, I thought the BD was way underpowered as the monster magnum is very stiff. However, I quickly realized it was amazing for pounders after fishing it a little bit and it is my go-to rod for big rubber now. |
