I bought a new Lexa 400HD 6:3:1 this spring for northern opener. First cast out of the gate the reel was screaming like a 5 year old abu ambassador. Everything else was smooth as butter and absolutely love the reel. When I got back I found a youtube tutorial on a step by step teardown. When I took the reel apart I was shocked not to find a hint of oil or grease anywhere in the reel. Looks like it was manufactured "dry". Lubed all the spool bearings and everywhere recommended in the the video tutorial and it is smooth as butter on the cast with not a hint of squealing. Here is the link below. The reel torn apart is a HD 300 but the 400HD is nearly the same. Did the same with my gen1 400 and also smoothed it out as well.

Esox 1980, I've got Abu Ambassadors that are 30-40yrs old that perform just as good as the day I bought them and probably a helluva lot quieter that your 400hd. kdawg

Me too!!! Still use them. I guess what I intended to say is that without grease maintenance they squeal.
