Okay, so I was looking for someone to fish with this past weekend since I had no boat to use....and I decided to rent a small fishing boat on Saturday up on Webster Lake.  So I headed to Fisherman's Cove and I rented a 12-14' aluminum boat with an 8HP on the back.

At 320lbs, I'm not sure this was a wise choice.  But I had to go fishing....it was 5 weeks since I've been out.  The first time I stood up in the boat, I knew I wouldn't be casting....the boat was just way too unstable for me.  One wrong step, and I knew I'd be in the drink.

So, I trolled.  With only one rod holder, I put a rod out.  I steered the 8HP tiller with one hand, and held another rod out the other side of the boat with my other hand.  I trolled spinnerbaits for 2 hours with no luck.  With me sitting in the back, the boat was doing a permanent wheelie and the 8HP was at 90% throttle to get me to about 5MPH...and I couldn't see a thing, because the nose of the boat was sticking straight up.

So, I changed up lures and put on a jointed Loke and I headed real shallow.  I only put out 1 rod, and I held it in my hand because of the frequent weed cleaning I had to do.  I had the bait on for about 10 minutes, and the reel started screamin!!!!   I looked back, and there was a musky jumping like crazy.  I had a 4' leader with the barrell swivel tight against the end of my rod.....so I only had 4' of line out (and it was all leader)....so when the fish it, it was right behind me.

I got the fish close to the boat and got the net ready and when the fish got close to the boat....IT JUMPED IN THE BOAT!!!  Anxiety set it because I didn't want the fish to get hurt, and I stood up and took one step towards the fish and ...... INTO THE LAKE I WENT.  The fish jumped in the boat.....I fell out of the boat.  So now, I'm swimming back to the boat and there's a musky flopping in my boat.  I swear to God.

When I hooked the fish, there was a family in a ski boat that saw the fish jump and they stopped to watch the whole thing.  They were laughing their butts off, as they came over to help me.  I jumped on the back of their swim platform, and from there, I picked up the 32" musky and released it from their swim platform unharmed.  I was happy and extremely embarrassed.  They took some pics for me and made sure I was okay.

Back in the small boat I went, and I put the Loke back out.  I went about 20 yards and I knew I had some weeds because something was causing my Loke not to put out it's typical vibration....and it wasn't stripping line.  Then, it jumped!!!  I had another musky on.  The same family in the boat saw it again, came over and the guy who was running the boat, came over to help.  He held my boat as I landed the fish. As I attemped to net the fish and not fall in the drink again, the musky got caught on the outside of the net.  I threw the guy in the ski boat my camera and he took a picture of me, the net, and the fish, as I shook off another low 30" fish with a pair of pliers.

What a day on the lake.  I'll add some pics when I get them back.  But seriously, when the first fish jumped in the boat, I immediately fell in the lake.  I hope that never happens again.

Oh, that's what happened. I thought for sure you were going to say something like: "Yea, Trey called me and we went out in his 621."

Brad

I have had a few nutty times in the boat but I hope I'll never top that one. It would have been worth a million if you had a cam-corder running from the front of the boat. Very funny.
See..some guys will do just about anything to catch a Musky or two.
At least you caught 2 fish!

I would have liked to wittness this one too..
3 guys I know went out in a small row boat. One was trying to seriously fish the last light for bass with topwaters. The other 2 were quickly making a case of barley pop go away. The guy fishing reached over the side to free his lure from a lilly pad and of course the other 2 had to lean over and look too. You guessed it, all 3 went into the drink. The boat flipped completly over dumping the open tackle box out in the water also. The two clowns were laughing so hard they could hardly swim. The fisherman was mad as a hornet. A small zip-lock bag of sinkers were floating nearby along with many lures. The sight of floating sinkers was hilarious to the beveragers. The next day we went out to recover what we could of the lures not found the night before and we also spotted full and empty bottles on the bottom. The story was fun but I dearly wish I was quietly fishing nearby when it happened.

Dude, we seen you out there, that boat looked like the canoe in the movie "shallow hal". Did not see you in the drink though. Glad you caught fish.

ROFLMAO  Steve I would pay big bucks to see this. Too bad no one filmed it as you can be the opening act or in between the main acts at all the winter shows.

Dude stay away from 12' boats, look what happenned to Andy this weekend. Some serious stuff indead.

Steve,

Now I'm feelin' really bad about not altering my schedule to take you out this past Sat. My morning with the nephew on a farm pond didn't provide NEAR the excitement of your story. However, if you'd have been in my boat the whole thing never would've happened and we wouldn't be laughing with you about it now. (you are laughing aren't you?) Great story and great fish. Just be careful, PLEEEZE!!!

Steve: If you fall into the drink up at Sabaskong I'll just tie some hooks to you and troll you around a bit nothing better than a lure that cleans it's self of weeds. Speaking of falling in the Drink bring your own life jacket / vest (PFD) to Sabaskong as I don't think I have one big enough for you

Dude, I feel bad too that I didn't offer some boat time, but the weather here in Ohio has seen so many storms that I've about give up for the year. Hey, you got two fish in an afternoon, took me three years and a trip to Pewaukee to do it. Thanks for sharing your story, glad you're ok. See ya real soon, m

When I saw you trolling the channel on our way out and you said you had two I noticed you looked a little wet! I didn't know what to make of it, but in the light of your story, I can't stop laughing out loud in my office. Good thing you weren't hurt but boy would I love to see a video of that chaos.

All's well that ends well! Thanks for sharing-it brightened an otherwise dismal day at work.

Hilarious man hilarious! Fell in once bringing a spinnerbait in deep for a figure 8 and walked right off the back of my buddy's Tuffy. We laughed for days. Don't try that in Nov. now unless you're "manually" checking water temps.!

Hey Brad,

Trey's solos are way too long for his own good. Does he really fish anyhow?

So tell us the story!

Good fishin',
