Location: Holly, MI | Where would you go and what would you bring if you only had one evening to fish Lake Minnetonka?
This sounds goofy but I never leave home (Michigan) but will be in the twin cities for a wedding on October 4th. I plan to sneak out for one evening (my wife has no clue yet of this tom-foolery)to lake Minnetonka. If I have to rent a rowboat I will. I was thinking of packing very light. Here is what I was thinking..
A couple of big and a small bucktail, one medium black grim reaper spinnerbait, My killer Cranes 208 in perch for a twitchbait, Medium black bulldawg, and my new purple daze 8 inch believer from Stan Durst. My smaller St Croix (because it is a two piece) will be a little light to flip the bulldawg but will sufice for a few hours.
Is it worth the effort to get out for only a few hours knowing it will be a small battle at home and a hassle to get a boat lined up?
How is the musky population (size does not matter) on tonka? Isn't there a few guys on this board who fish it? Can I have a high probability of at least seeing fish going out blind for only one evening?

There are enough people on this board who fish it on a regular basis, I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't get at least 1 of them to get you out on the lake.

Location: Holly, MI | That was not what I was looking for but would be sweet.
I lived in Mound MN about 15 yrs ago near the west edge of the lake but never fished it.
At the first mention of fishing on the trip (with my wife and four boys)she said I was crazy. I'm working her in slowly. Later this evening I mentioned just taking a "small" box and one two piece rod and she just let out a little "umm" <-- thats better than no right? I can't complain, I have gotten out quite a few times this year. |

If you can’t find anyone to take you, email me two weeks before your trip. I have a big work project that is supposed to start around that time, but I will know for sure in a month or so. Location: Eden Prairie & Pine Island | Conditions and trends can change quite a bit on Tonka; you need to post again closer to October, and maybe we can give you some better suggestions. Off hand I'd suggest a bull dawg, a perch phantom and some good twitch baits. |

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | Fishing then should be pretty good with several feeding windows throughout the day at that time of the year. We've been seeing bigger fish this year, and the strong year class we had 7 years ago is around 38-40" right now. If your interested in going out you can check me out at muskynutguides.com. I guide Minnetonka pretty much exclusively, Cady does the great white north (Cass, Big, Bemigi etc.) and Duck does the Mille Lac/Brainerd area. We supply all the gear you may need (St.Croix rods and Abu reels) and can do 1/2 day if that works best. We (Cady and I) also run new Procraft boats so safty and a good ride is insured. I have that weekend open if your interested.

| I am a nobody but I do fish Tonka quite a bit. I do not disagree with any of the other suggestions but I would also make sure to have a bucktail with an orange blade with you. |
