| Consider checking out and joining the local chapter of Muskies Inc. MI50 Penn Jersey
http://www.mi50.com/forum/
Attend a monthly meeting, which is held the first Wednesday of each month. Great group and they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

| I appreciate the welcomes! I have never really tried for muskies, but, figure it's time I start. allegedly, nockamixon is a kicking tiger muskie lake. I guess i'll ask the dumb questions now...
superlines...a good idea?
can I just straight tie on, or, should I use a steel leader?
guessing large inline spinners are my best first choice?
the "figure eight"...necessary, or just a good idea?
any good books or instructional videos you folks can recommend? |

| Welcome to the sport. Some basics to get you started.
Proper release tools. Musky sized deep bagged net.
Knipex, or small bolt cutters and be sure they're strong enough to cut through the hooks. If fish is badly hooked, cut the hooks. Replacement hooks are cheap.
Handling Gloves, Long nose pliers, needle nose pliers, small & medium sized jaw spreaders.
Have all your release tools close by and ready.
Keep the fish in the net, and the net in the water while unhooking.
Have camera, measuring device, ready before taking fish out of net for a quick photo. Try to limit out of water time for the fish to less than 1 min. Ideally limit out of water time to around 30 seconds.
Superline, Braid 65lb to 100lb, Solid wire or fluorocarbon leader 130lb. test.
Fish early season or during the fall. Once water temps start to approach the 80 degree mark, we fish for something else. High water temps and stress from hooking, playing, and handling, equal potential for delayed mortality.
Figure 8 always a good idea.
A basic assortment of baits:
Bucktails
Spinnerbaits
Jerkbaits
Dive Rise
Crankbaits
Soft Plastics
Be patient, and Enjoy!
