I use a spinning reel about 4 days a year. Today I tried to spool a spinning reel with 30lb ( 8 lb dia. ) braid with disappointing results ( would have made a nice soft pillow). How in hell do you get it on tight enough. I put it on in the same way I do mono laying the spool on the floor label up tried to put tension on with right hand . I would rather dig my eye out with a spoon than ask my wife's help with fishing tackle. I guess my next move is to take it in the boat and let it all out with a diving crank bait on .

If you grip the line with a shop rag you can put a decent amount of tension on it. For my heavier spinning reels where I use braid, I've resorted to just tying the #*#* to a tree, walking the line off and then reeling it under tension as I walk back to the tree.

I use the tree method for everything.

I use rag tension and then over fill as I would my Bait casting reels, then I tie up to a telephone poll and run it out and crank it in under a load of tension, I will do that twice maybe 3 times.

Think I will use the hard pulling crank bait. The neighbours already think I'm nuts. Why does he go fishing in December Why does he have 3 boats in the driveway and go fishing in a canoe.

You should have seen my neighbors eyes when I tried to set my tree stand up across the street. Or when I come home at noon with a boat full of "plastic ducks"
