| I am new to Musky fishing. I don't now what tackle to get. what type of reels, pole, line. I'm not the richest guy around. Is it O.K. to get used things. Help |

Location: Minnesota | Used is fine you can get some good deals good way to start. I'm a shimano guy TE 's are a solid reel will last a long time .i have some that are 15 years old and are still catching fish |

Few things:
You need a big net. Can't do it without it. Frabil Powercatch or Beckman or drifter.
You will want at least an 8 ft heavy rod. Try a St. Croix Mojo Musky
You can use any shimano or abu garcia reel to get you started. Shimano 400B or Abu Revo S will be good starts. Used is fine if it's not too beat up.
You need 80lb braid minimum.
Quality leaders. Never skimp. Look at Rollie and Helens or thorne bros has what you need.
Hook Cutters (small bolt cutters)
Some bucktails will get you started for baits. Try black.
Long pliars.
If you catch one, net it and leave the net in the water with the fish in it while unhooking. Then gently lift the fish out of the water for a picture. Hold the fish horizontal(never vertical) for a pic. Have the fish out of the water for no more than 30 seconds. Gently put it back in and hold the fish upright in the water by the tail while it revives. No need to pump the fish back and forth. Just let it sit there and recover. |

| Just to correct kirby, revo TORO S, not revo S.
Should you end up looking at abu garcia reels, keep in minde that the revo TORO lineup is the size 300 and 400 muskie compatible reel family while the revo lineup is the size 200 bass reel lineup that is totaly non compatible with about 85% of fishing techniques used for big pike/muskie, some people who arent familiar with abu garcia tend to get confused.

Yup, good catch. 400 sizes are best overall in my opinion. |

Hase any muskie specific technic caught your eye already? (Bucktails, big rubber, crankbaits...?) |

| St Lawrence NY, Bass fishing and a lot of it, 67, make bucktails ( 8" 8-12 size blades ), make my own rubber lures ( biggest 10"). When it comes to crankbaits, I have got them over the years ( Biggest 10" ). I am use to baitcasting reels. |

| Try to get a reel with a ratio of 5 then, that is a rather versitile ratio. Pick from one of these depending on your budjet and you should be good to go:
Revo TORO s
MAXTORO
calcutta 400b
Calcutta 400d
Tranx 400pg.
For the rod, a 1 piece usually peformes better but a 2 piece is much easier to carry.
The tackle industries xh should allow you to fish all the lures you described without any issiues. It existe in 1 or 2 pieces so up to you to chose |

Only one "piece" to worry about, and the ~7' rod sleeves protect them nicely.
