I am going to lake of the woods the first week of September.
What have been the hot colors for that time of year, spots, structure, etc.

Check out Doug Johnson's Chat from last year, should be a pretty good guide for what you might be looking for. If anyone can give you the straight news on LOTWs anytime of year, its Doug, they dont come much better.

I'm no expert but when I went up there this year I had most of my luck on smallmouth bass patterns and bumblebee

I was up there mid july. Our two boats boated 6 fish 42/ 47.5 being the biggest all on yellow bucktails. We moved fish on natural bass, sucker, & perch patterns as well as fire tiger. Only hook-ups came on yellow.
