Location: Lake St. Clair | I've tried to separate car chargers in my outlets to charge a phone. Neither have worked and both chargers would not work when plugged back into a vehicle. They don't seem to fit tight in the outlets in the dash of my boat and I'm afraid the chargers are getting blown every time they are plugged into the boat. Anyone else have this issue?? I can't seem to figure it out, am I missing something simple here?? |

| Find the fuse in the boat for that outlet lower that fuse possibly, maybe there is a slight wiring issue, are you using a charger while using this outlet? It shouldn't matter but it could if the colts are over 15. Maybe your running two cranking battery's in parallel for big electronics, if one lead is on each battery it may be in series for this appliance. |

Location: Lake St. Clair | I only have 1 cranking battery and it's usually pushing around 11.6 volts when the big motor is off. This was happening while on the water so no charger was connected to the boat batteries.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | If it's only hooked to the start battery, you should be getting 12 volt and that's it. Try a 12 volt USB plug like this one, and charge with a USB cord.

Location: Lake St. Clair | I will try that, but so far I have tried a Verizon car charger as well as a smaller version of what your link shows. Both of the chargers I tried didnt fit into the outlet tight at all. They spin very easily and don't seat tight. I have a message into Wanda regarding the issue. Is it possible there is a problem with the new dash Tuffy went to this year??

Location: MN | Check wiring, fuses and replace the 12V recepticle for one that has a better fit. |

| While it doesn't answer your question about the electrical problem in your boat. You could buy an external battery, like an anker and use it to charge your phone, gopro, etc I keep my phone and external battery in a dry box with my keys, wallet and anything I don't want to get wet. |

| If the 12v outlet in the boat is loose/big for multiple different charger cords, that sure seems to be the most likely source of the problem. If those chargers are jiggling inside the outlet rather than making a tight connection, it could create a short that would pop the internal fuse in the charger cord.
Bad parts happen, start there with a new outlet. Heck, maybe the boat company will send you a new one so that it matches. If not, they're inexpensive and easy to replace.

Location: Lake St. Clair | Tuffy is sending me a new 12V plug dash panel. They want to examine mine as they think it may be a one off but want to investigate! |
