Not exactly what you asked, but I had success late last fall burning bucktails. That makes me curious to hear the opinion of others, but I'd wager burning bucktails is not just strictly a summer pattern but rather can catch fish almost all year.

Once the fire is hot. They tend to smolder if it's not adequately heated.

This. The metal parts have to glow red.

If they are hair bucktails they will have a nasty smell when they are burned. If you are burning flashbou bucktails you will get black smoke. I would recommend removing the skirts before throwing them in the fire.

Flashbou makes better tinder than hair and can also be used for smoke signals too! If you do not have a flare gun and become dead on the water, I believe you need atleast 40 kramer Bros to get the desired effects with enough quantity of smoke for smoke signals... Someone else chime in if I am mistaken... ... .. .

Last year i was burning a dadson bullet i bought on ebay for 5 times retail with a tranx and a st croix legend elite. Expensive day. Then a friend of mine told me your only supposed to burn the bucktail. GRRRR! I have read so many threads on what rod and reel to burn with a doudle ten. I know the dadson bullet is a double nine but still. With, you all meant used to, not with. Your all to blame!

Tough crowd!

I would start burning small bucktails on opener here in Northern MN on opening day if conditions permit. Let the fish tell you if it's time. Otherwise the main time to start doing it with bigger bucktails around here would be end of June/early July.

We did get a fish on opener last year on a super fast bucktail retrieve. It works all the time.

Normally I'll start burning them at 8:03 a.m. on May 4th and then I will stop burning them at 7:36 p.m. on November 2nd

When they quit working. Hate them so much when they quit spinning, burning too good for them.

You could burn your boat with 40 KBT bucktails in said boat... that'll give you plenty of smoke to work with!

I'd be jumping ship. Arms full of Kramers, Lake X's, Bakers, and Hosebaits.

You can't catch muskies without em, you know.

Hmmm, maybe that's my problem. I haven't got my hands on any of those yet. I thought musky mayhems would work but I guess I was wrong.
