Hi Everyone,

I continue to look, and look, and look at different models of boats and am curious about the tuffy models. I've been in an early 2000's 619 and loved the layout, and how smooth the boat ran, but am also interested to hear about anyone's experiences with the tuffy model x190 and their 1890 series of boats. The x190 looks to be a faster hull since it is a touch narrower...

What I am looking for: dual console, back casting deck (esox series of interiors), excellent ride quality in rougher conditions (how well does the hull split the waves or ride on top of them if conditions allow)

Quality of construction

Fishability of 3 people...

Storage...

Ability to add kicker in rear.

Thanks everyone!!

For your list I'd go 1890. Really good big water ride, fast, and handles the really bad stuff very well.

budget will determine what to go with imo... I saw a new x 190 for sale for like 37k...that in a ranger is 20k more...
hard to beat Rangers fit, finish, quality and resale value... if moneys no object I'd go ranger 619/620

how low does the 1890 sit to the water? Is it high up? will it get blown around in the wind a bit?

Tuffy resale is not significantly different in time to sell, price compared to new, etc, there's just fewer out there and as a result fewer for sale. We have years of classifieds to compare resale. The model, year, and condition determines how fast one will sell in either brand.

Lund is clearly number 1 in resale in the Midwest and North.

No, the 1890 doesn't blow around at all. Draws a bit less than a foot. Controls well in big wind.

The lamination schedule is similar in both brands, and both use the same resin and gel coats.

Both use composite construction. The deck, floors, and hull are laminated into one piece in a Tuffy.

Can't go wrong with a Tuffy! I ran a 2012 x190 for a couple years primarily on Lake St. Clair. It handled that big nasty water very well! I believe the 1890 would be a little better however due to the little deeper hull. I now run a 2100 and couldn't be happier with it. Extremely well built and you are getting a lot of boat for substantially less $$ than a comparable ranger. Plus Tuffy is a great group of people to deal with!

no, the Tuffy 1890 does not catch a lot of wind and blow around in the wind. not at all.

I have a 2011 1890T and the only thing I wish I could change on it from what your looking for is rod storage. You cannot store 9 footers in the rod locker. That may have changed with newer models or counsel boats but wanted to add that.

I had a 2007, 2012 and have a 2015 1890Gt and I have been able to fit 9' rods in My top row in the rod locker no problem. The Tuffy 1890 is a great boat.

9' rods are not a problem on the top row as Jeff has mentioned.

I have Jeff's 2012 now and it is a fantastic fishing boat. Impressive in waves and very comfortable to fish from.

The rod locker won't fit all 9' rods. My jerkbait rod is a custom 8'4" Predator XH with a longer handle and it won't fit. My MI 9ftrs with standard handles fit fine.

Does the 2100 have a longer locker? It looks that way in pics.

Those with the 1890...do you have the back deck extension or the Esox series? Tuffy does not have any pictures on the website for the 1890. They have it for the x190, and I am really curious as to how big it is and how much room it eats up.

Does that back extension have room under it to store things as well?

And...is there anyone in the twin cities area that would let me crawl around their rig? I am very curious to look at the 1890 with the back deck, but there are no dealers in the twin cities area that I am aware of...

Thanks

Steve

I have the tiller version. No rear deck and I don't want one. Plenty of room to stand and cast without it. Have fished in a dual console 1890 with the deck extension. Cockpit gets a bit small for my liking.
Does add a lot of deck space and storage.

I'm in the SW Metro if you want to see a G-series tiller. Same boat minus the console (s).

Tuffy deck extensions do not offer the ability to store things under. They do however have built in hatches for storage. They are more like a box where rangers are simply a flat surface that sits on the existing storage areas. Both great boats... If you want the Cadillac go ranger, if you want the Chevy go Tuffy... As far as I can see, the only difference between the brands is the trim package!

I can get you an exact quote on a Tuffy including tax and delivery to West End Sports in Red Wing, just need what options you want including engine HP and brand. Tuffy packages with Merc.

IMO 619.....
May not be the fastest hull of the bunch but definitely the best. Sits right in the water with a kicker on it and very tough to beat the rough water ride.....Tough as nails. I like the layout of the X 190 as well but i don't think the other brands have the comparable fit and finish. I would opt for Yammie for power plant myself based on my own experience with them.
