I'm looking to upgrade my hook cutters and get a Knipex.  Are there any advantages or disadvantages to the angled head vs. the more common straight head?

While I can't answer that question, I will say get the spring loaded ones.

Try your local Napa auto store as well I got mine for 50$ and the pro is from the manager as long as I have there receipt they will exchange it if it fails and they will deal with warranty... As far as your question, buy both never know if you drop one in the lake while you have a fish hooked through your hand...

If you want, sign up for the rewards program from Sears (shop your way?). They have "suprise" deals where you can get $8 off your next purchase pretty regularly. I did this and ended up with a straight head, non-spring loaded version for around $35 plus tax.

Check ebay. Some machine shops replace theirs on a yearly basis and get rid of them on there. I think I paid $5 for mine.

I did see these as well, but was hesitant to try anything else after reading all the endorsements for Knipex on this site.  I've never been afraid to spend good money on good tools but maybe I'll grab the angled head Knipex and get these as a backup as someone else suggested.  Glad to hear they performed well!  Thanks!
