| The majority of the time that I go muskies fishing I'm usually fishing out of a boat that I rent from whichever resort that I'm staying at. With one exception, every boat that I've ever rented didn't come with a trolling motor and they have never been available for rent. I would like to buy something that's small and portable, but has enough thrust to move an 18' long boat at a decent clip. What do you guys recommend? |

Location: Cheyenne, WY most of the year | For electric I've always heard to double your boat weight, and divide by 100 to determine how much thrust you need. So- 3000lb boat, you'd want at least 60lb of thrust. |

| 280$ for a minnkota that has 55# thrust and a digital maximizer, that's what makes the battery last longer than a troller with 5 preset speeds. http://www.minnkotamotors.com/Trolling-Motors/Freshwater-Transom-Mo... |

Location: Waukee, IA | For an 18' boat you'll certainly benefit from a 24 volt system and at least 65 pounds of thrust. Anything meeting those criteria will work just fine |

| You loose portability with 24v applications. You can always have a second battery to double run time. I used a 40 pound troller for many years on a 17'7" warrior glass boat. Yeah a long day would drain two battery's but it was fine. I imagined renting a 18' Lund row boat. |

| If you bring 2 batteries anyway why not go with the 24V system anyway ? |

| Don't need to spend 450 for 70# and 550 for 80#, I don't see the need for more. If it were on my boat id have 112 hence I have two... But I want to do the same thing as the OP does and this is my plan. |
