| I was recently at a fishing expo and purchased some new trolling gear. I'm running 8ft Custom Xtrolling rods with Okuma cold water line counter reels. My question is what line are you using on your trolling set ups? What rods and reels are you using? |

Location: MN | There was a recent thread with some more input. Seems like similar answers so far, but worth a quick read.

Location: oswego, il | I use mono and braid. Mono works on boards better because the line wont slip on the clip. Braid for down rods. The exception would be slow trolling, then you want braid on everything. |

Location: MN | I have four convector 30s, two spooled with 80 lb braid and two with 30 lb mono. The rods are 8' and 9' fiberglass catfishing sticks. The mono reels are on 9' rods for a wider spread since the board rods run in front. The braid reels are on 8' rods and run in the rear.
Not sure if that is optimal or not by any means. I haven't done a lot of 3+ line trolling, mostly I use 1 or 2 of the braid rods without boards. |

Location: St. Lawrence River | Consider going with a longer fluoro leader. I make my own and I like to have them 5ft. The reason for this is you can use a variety of different things above the leader to grab the weeds and keep them from going down to the bait. Longer leader ensures clean presentations.

Location: Walker, MN | Behind the boat I use TDR Heavy, Okuma Coldwaters, 80# braid and 60" Flouro leader.
I'll often use stiffer casting rods when running mag boards. I double wrap the braid on the board clips, I have had no issues with slippage doing it this way (Offshore Magnums with OR-18 releases). I'm often running short (20'-40') behind the boards to keep lures up in the water column, so a casting reel/rod without line counter works fine here. |

Location: oswego, il | I am migrating to shorter trolling rods for musky and salmon. I have been using heavy 8.5' dipsey rods. They work great, nice spreads and handle the loads. The issue is netting the fish the person has to walk back too far. In waves it is not fun. BPS has a 7' power plus trigger rod with a 4oz rating for 29 bucks. They have longer ones with the rating. These will work great! |

| I also have the 8' Custom X trolling rod and the Tekota with 100# Power Pro, the Custom X trolling rod hauls everything and I'm so happy with it I bought another this year.
The 100# PP is the way to go if using a braid, I've had the 80# & 65# break when hitting rock. |
