| Where to begin. Got to the border on the morning of Sept. 29th. First time in 15 years that I've had my vehicle searched. 2 of our group of 8 had to pay an extra admission fee! I hear the resort owners are really po'd about this. Spent over an hour getting in at Rainey River.
The houseboat was pretty nice, but the hot water heater didn't do anything but put out luke warm water. And they brought us a half empty propane tank on Friday night, so the furnace died about 2:00 AM. It got pretty cold in there.
As far as the fishing, it was a little slow. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday were actually quite nice. Partly sunny, mild temps, but quite windy. Water temps were 56-58 degrees. My partner Landy and I mostly stayed in and around Sabaskong, except for Wednesday. Tuesday dawned rainy, windy, and cold. We moved some fish up in Stoney, had a high 40 follow and miss, and I lost a real nice one Tuesday night on a Reef Hawg. It left 3 teeth in the bait! Most of the fish caught were in reeds and rocks. About an equal amount of bigger fish were seen around rock reefs.
They moved the houseboat Tuesday to the north end of Miles, and we fished west of there on Wedneday. No fish in our boat, but 2 were caught in the group. Took a nice 38 in northern Thursday morning on the way back down to Sabaskong. Cold and Windy. Water temps falling below 54. Friday was cold and windy, and I lost another good one on a black Suick. Thought I hit a rock on the second pull. Then the fish made a pass at it, and I could see it was very large and thick. Casted back out to the spot, no rock, but I did fell the fish hit again. It took out about 25 feet whille heading for the front of the boat and the trolling motor. I didn't want to set the hook again while the line was on the shaft of the motor, but it shook free before clearing the motor.
Friday night it snowed, and we made snowman. Saturday morning, we fished til about 9:30, and headed out. Water temps on this beautiful morning was 49.8 degrees. Saw one fish on a Lime green Suick. And then we left.
All told, we picked up 11 muskies, the largest was 39". I missed two very large fish, saw several mid 40's. The other guys also saw some nice fish. Alot of northerns, biggest was 40".
Not quite the numbers or size we expected, but the weather didn't help. And my two screw ups didn't make things better, either. A good trip, lots of fun, good food, plenty of beer, and some beautiful scenery. Kept an eye out for D'arcy, but didn't really see many muskie guys out there.
Tight lines all.

| Hey Shep
Your fishing report is on par for what is happening in my area of LOTW a few small fish but no size and water temp is fairly high for the time year (50's). Have trolled and caught fish, but most have come casting. Water temp will hopefully drop soon so we can get the big ones to start eating.

| How was the food?[:)] | |
| | |
| Well, one could say the food was better than the fishing![:praise:] We had great Spaghetti on Saturday night, 16 oz. Filet with grilled French Bread and Au Jous Sunday night, Raw Beef and Onions Monday, Brats on Tuesday, Ground Round Hamburgs Wednesday, leftovers on Thursday, and Fresh Walleye/Crappie/Perch/Northern Fish Fry on Friday. Had eggs/bacon/sausage/pancakes for breakfast everyday. On Friday morning I broke out the venison for Venison Steak and Eggs![:p] Yum Yum![:praise:]
Plus all sorts of snacks, fruit, candy, etc. Also went through 4 sticks of Eden Meat Market's Garlic Venison Summer Sausage! Very good eats all week.
Stopped at the Woodside?(is that right Mark H?) in Eau Claire on the way up, and had the Elk Meatloaf. Very good, very rich, if you catch my wind...... I mean drift! LOL
Tight Lines All, and SET the hook,

| I fished the NWA on Monday and our group caught three in the first half hour! The biggest was 36". Moved around the kenora area and had a few good hits and a couple big pike. At 2:00 the rain started coming hard and the action completly stoped. We fished till five seeing no fish after 2PM.
All of our fishing was done trolling.
