One Eyed Willy
One Eyed Willy JR

I will admit, I got rid of all my others because the One Eyed Willy and Jrs were heavier which made them easier in my opinion to work and they created more sound/splash which I liked.
I had no issues with my weagles and even my jackpots.

If just trying these for the first time and getting multiple just get one heavy and one lighter one and decide what you prefer.

One eyed willy has been the best for me rides low in water and I've had a high hook up rate with it.

This is actually two categories
Ones that sit IN the water and move push
And ones that sit ON the water

Weagles and vipers sit in the water film half in half out they push more water and have a nice tail pop if you give slack and let them glide out slow,,good for darker water

WTD baits that sit atop the water like jackpots, phatboys, plastic ones can be worked faster.I've found the best ones of these are ones that 'hop' with a little head bob after you twitch the rod tip.

Nothing imitates a baby duckling better then a phatboy,,small chunky bouncing back an forth they look just like a duckling lost separated from mama great spring baits when there are lots of newly hatched duckies. Phatboys don't handle chop very well though more of a calm water bait.

The best hooking WTD I've ever fished is a Mass Maurader maybe its the peanut shape but they hook well even 3 lb pike get the hooks,,very underrated bait that's in a lot of closeout bins.

Seagulls love em all!!!!

Fast: Jackpot. Lots of blow ups, lots of misses, but you can cover a lot of water with it. Love that in vast weedy areas.
Moderate: Weagle. Moves a lot of water, makes a lot of noise, much less likely to get blown out of the water.
Slow: HR 10" Top Prey. Usually reserved as a throwback for those less than interested fish that clearly didn't want what you were throwing. It really takes some getting used to to be able to reliably turn it 90 degrees, but it makes a ton of noise and throws a lot of water around.

After 4-5 blowups on the Giant Jackpot, to include one of the HUGEST pike I've ever seen (in a bay where many here have fished and are fam. with,) and as many misses I gave mine away.... Fish simply pushed it out of the way!

I'll try the Weagle this year (if I can put away my danged 'Swix") as well as one of those Ortins. Going to get a Creepy Ortin too. Will report back next...

Really pees me off to have fish blow up on a bait and.......miss! I'm a slow learner I guess....

I love jackpots. I know what guys are talking about with blowups. I use to get tnem and so did friends. I've found that at a little slower pace, the fish miss them way less. It's a very erratic baot and if woked to fast the fish can't hone in on them a take weak striles. I slowed down just a bit and my hook ups have increased dramaticly.
Bob mehsikomer make a heavy plastic version called, I believe, attack dawg. Bob gave me a couple and they are outstanding. Heavier, durable, and have a bearing that clunky loud. This is the best imo. Unfortunately he does make them anymore. I got last 2

1) Water Moccosin by Musky Safari. I absolutely love this WTD bait and I was surprised to see that it didn't make anyone's list. I bought this bait on the recommendation of a friend and I loved it from the first cast. It moves a lot of water and doe so flawlessly.

2) Maas Marauder by Salmo. This is one of my go to WTD baits on calm water. I reserve it for calm water because it smaller, lighter, and doesn't bust through waves like some of the larger WTD baits on the market. It moves side-to-side like other WTD baits, but it also plops up and down. It makes a unique sound that I've never heard from other baits in this category. I've done very well on this bait over the years. The Starry Night pattern is hands down my favorite.

3) Weagle by Suick. No WTD bait collection is complete without at least one Weagle. I have an old Weagle from the pre-Suick days that has produced a number of fish for me. It's "death march" side-to-side action is famous among muskie fisherman. The 10" version is ideal if you intend to throw this bait in big waves.

My best producer has been the softail vipers, they make an amazing plop if you work them hard enough and fish crush them!
I also throw the maas and fish stick (rough conditions).

lots of good ones out there. for me;
#1 for consistancy in action, few misses and high % hookups has been the one eye
heavy, low in the water,3 hooks ..fish dont seem to push it ahead of the bite as easily for more consistant hookups, fewer misses
#2 for attracting fish (rattle),moving quicker, and awesome moves once a fish is up on it has been the doc,
playing with an awesome bait with electronic fleeing baitfish sound tech built in... the livingston walking boss. soon to be available
#3 combo of the 2 characteristics... fish stick
