Anyone fish out of Pipestone Point Resort on Lake of the Woods? I've fished Sabaskong Bay quite a bit and am looking to explore other areas of the lake. I'm interested on how much boat traffic there is in mid-July and how the musky fishing rates in the area as compared to Sabaskong and the NW Angle.
Thanks in advance.

Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't
I'm planning a trip to LOTW so I'm interested to hear about this as well.

Haven't stayed there in a long time but very nice place.I assume Pete Haugen still owns it and,if so,you will be in good hands.Old time muskie man and knows what's up.
Good fishing in every direction with every type of water clarity and structure close by.Suspect like in any area of the Woods, there is boat traffic in July.

I believe the badfish outdoors musky madness 3 has a nice segment out of pipestone point. Worth watching if you can get your hands on it. Mark Lejewski fishes with a very young Spencer Berman and they catch some nice fish there.

We were there a couple years ago and Pete was quite ill and his daughter was running the place. Good food comfortable cabin. We saw just two Muskie and one was a monster. That was the year the lake was as high as it had been in 40 years The other Muskie guys in camp caught fish but they ran quite a way to get them.

Dennis Lappen always used to go here and said it was because there were so few other resorts in the area which generally meant less boat traffic and pressure.

I have not stayed at Pipe Stone but I have stayed at Witch Bay Camp which is not too far from there. The pressure is very nominal. I usually stay for a week at a time and usually there is no more than one time a trip that I get to a spot and someone is using it. I highly recommend the area...

I can tell you with many years of experience on LOTW that you will see less fish but more importantly far less boats. Don't expect to see the amount of fish you see in the angle ... but you will see some giants.

I can't speak too much about Sabaskong. First time there was last year. Was an absolute zoo. Can honestly say I may never go back. Granted was my first time so I was probably fishing the obvious community spots. But I swear the last night I was there on a Friday every where I looked I saw musky fisherman. Everywhere.

To me that's not what going to Canada and LOTW is all about. If I'm gonna fish with that many boats around I may as well go to Vermilion and have a legitimate shot at a 55+.

Just my opinion.

Haven't been to Sabaskong, but I've spent time in this area, as well as quite a bit of time in the Angle/Big Narrows, and parts in between. Comparing the areas, overall muskie numbers are lower as compared to the Angle/Big Narrows, but average size tends to run a bit higher. There are plenty of big fish in both areas.

It's true that there are fewer resorts, so generally, yes, there are fewer muskie boats around. However, there is a fair amount of pressure directed at spots in the immediate vicinity...so, despite fewer muskie guys overall, you won't be alone and the area near the resort can still seem a bit crowded. (E.g., spend a July afternoon/evening in Andrews Bay and it only takes a handful of other muskie boats to be bumping into each other).

There is plenty of water to the S and W to spread out into, though.

Also, in July, expect to encounter some recreational traffic as the area around Pipestone has a fair amount of cabins/development (e.g., Moore Bay, Hades, French Narrows, Queer Is., etc.). Not a big issue, but it contributes to feeling less "remote" than other areas of LOTW.

Have fished Sabaskong Bay every Oct since '86. Have fished the Angle the last few Julys. This August was my first trip to Pipestone Point. I noticed a lot of boat traffic but few Muskie anglers. Like stated earlier, the were many recreational boats, I assume related to the numerous cabins. I would say fewer, but larger fish. Partner and I caught two fifties the first day. I made reservations when I left for this year. I liked.
