I'm looking to get some new trolling rods and don't want to break the bank. I've read a lot of good things about the TDR's but my question is what length and power should I get I was looking at either the 8'6" MH/9'MH or the 8'H. The biggest/hardest pulling baits I will run are going to be legend perchbaits. I'm not going to run them at 6mph but a steady speed of 3.5-4.5 is about what I run most of my baits at. Thanks!!!

I've also got some questions about a new reel for my casting setup and I will link that here if you have any input:

Id suggest the 8'H. I run perchbaits and plows over 5mph on them.

Thank you for your feedback. I will defiantly go with the 8'H then. On a side note have you heard anything about the cabelas trolling reels I know they only run about $40 but like I said I'm trying to save money since I troll very little. Feel free recommend other low priced trolling reels too!

I ran the Quantum Controllers for a few years. Fleet Farm has them for $50. Great reels for the money. I didn't have any issues with them.

We used the Cabelas Linecounters trolling for kings on Lake Michigan and they didn't hold up well. Last year I found Daiwa Accudepth linecounters at Frank's Great Outdoors in Linwood, MI for $54 each. I bought 10 since. They were great for trolling on Green bay.

+2 on the TDR 8' heavies, they work well for everything from super shad raps to 12" headlocks. Heat shrink the foam handles and they will hold up well for a lot of trolling.

Best reel for the money in my opinion is the Okuma CV30DLC. It will last you a lifetime

I just use heat shrink tubing like an electrician might use. It's about a buck a foot I think. The foam is a bit cheap on these.

The "musky boys" have a you tube video on this topic. You should watch it.
