OK, everyone but Treats can reply to this one:

I have received many good replies over the past few months and I am narrowing down my choices for a new rig. I am upgrading from my 16 ft Crestliner to one of the 4 below.....I may even throw Champion into the mix?

Here is what I am looking at: My next rig must be a smooth and safe ride, perhaps even a fish and ski as my kids will be in the boat more often nest year! My wife would like to go out more often and wants a rig where she can hang out in, and even entertain from time to time (the entertaining part may be about 5-10 times a year is all). 75% of the time, I will be solo, 25% of the time, I'll have my kids or wife with me.....so, your thoughts/opinions would be great!

In no particular order:

1) ProCraft 180 or 200 combo
2) Crestliner 1850 Sportfish
3) Ranger 619
4) Triton 190FS/SF19

Well I am a glass fan now, loved my c-liner for alum, but glass is the way to go in my opinion.

Out of all your choices for full time fishing, I would go 619 Ranger...although you have a couple of dual purpose choices I'll throw you another one.....look for the Ranger 180 Reatta, new fish and ski model this year!!!!!
Looks very very nice for a fish and ski, little smaller than their previous 19 and 21'er and a better price point for their glass family-boat line.

New catalogs won't be out until Dec, but I have color flyers for it.

Tahoe, like Greg, I also went from a Crestliner to 'glass recently, and you won't be disappointed if you do the same.

If the boat is only going to be used as a family toy 25% of the time, then the other 75% of the time you are on the water chasing muskies you will have to put up with a fish/ski boat. Go with the fishing layout, and the family won't know the difference when they are out with you a couple times per year.

Either way you choose, take your time picking the right boat, and make sure you get to test drive any of them you are seriously considering.

Good luck!

The Ranger or the Triton. I'd stay away from the ProCraft. I've owned aluminum and there's alot to be said for them, but the ride is going to be much better in a glass boat.

Bottom line, take a test drive in each. You're family will appreciate the glass ride, so take them with you.

Good fishin',

Tyler

Don't forget what you"give up" when going with a fisk/ski or dual console model. Rod locker length is usually the first thing to get "downsized". Just a thought... I looked at several older f/s' and just couldn't bring myself (even on the 20+ footers) to give up the locker space. I have an 8 1/2 footer on my striper boat. Granted, it's windy. But on a nice summer day the family prefers the breeze blowing across the boat instead of being cooked behind glass. On the fishing days, I prefer the enormous floor space.

Tahoe, I would go with the 619. I got a 620 and just love it. I have a wife, two kids, guide and fish all the time. This boat will do it all, yes even tube and ski out of. Great stable ride and can fish the big water to rivers. Hands down the best boat I have ever fished out of. I would be happy to tell you more via e-mail or if you want to get out sometime I will show you what it can do. Mike.

Another option is the 2050 DCW Patriot. It seats 4 comfortably in the cockpit with LOTS of leg and shoulder room, will plane in 4 seconds and runs 50 MPH with a 150 XR6 Merc, fishes like a dream, has tons of storage, and costs less than some aluminum boats.

One of the Patriot dealers has this rig with a 150 rigged and ready, all 2004, for under 30K.

I fished 4 yesterday for crappies, and we all had a ton of room. The livewell is huge, the baitwell held 25 10" plus crappies, and the rod locker takes rods to 9'. Warranty is 10 years, and transfers to the next owner.

Hi, I’ve been searching for the same style boat and have been looking into the same models as you. Have you checked out http://www.sunpatio-warriorboats.com/ ? Their boats seem to have many good attributes. I’ve never heard anything bad about them either.

Definately would highly rec. the Ranger 619. I have a 620 with dual console and a walk-through windshield and still have more floor space and rod storage than most boats on the market. Fishing 3 people is not even close to being crowded and the livewell is a life saver. It is a decent amount of cash to be spending but highly worth it. Definately a pleasure to be on because of it's size and comfort. Plus the floor plan is ideal for musky fishing and if you get the rear deck insert it's even more ideal.
