I have owned several brands of line winders over the years and they all ended up in the garage, unused because they were a pain to use and it was easier to chase a spool around the room. We got this one from my friend James at  Piscifun a few days ago, and it literally took just a few minutes to put new line on all my ice reels.

The spool is held tight by two spring loaded, adjustable arms, and can't come off. You can set the tension based upon how tight you want the line on the spool., and it works well spooling up any casting or spinning reel.

Take a look.

I have always put mono on a spinning reel by taking it off the end of the spool so it lays on the reel in the same way it was wrapped on the spool. Is this not necessary with braid?

Same thing for me when taking it off with the spool facing the reel, depends on how it was wound on the spool as to whether the line comes off the top or bottom. Zero twist.

As I said, no twist, and I loaded several reels with monofilament and two ice reels with fluorocarbon line.

So that winder is taking the line to the spinning from a revolving spool. So back to my question is braid treated differently than mono when loading a spinning reel.

it did't twist the line for me, and I've loaded several reels with different line types. The jig didn't spin on camera when I dropped it down the first time.

Have you tried other gear from them?

Is it quality gear?

Just chatted with their customer service. Doesn't work on fly reels.

Works great on inline ice reels, though, just spooled up a couple Frabill 241 models.
