| Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone of you, have ever fished Black lake in NY , in particular spring, for muskies. I'm planning a May trip. I've never fished this lake before, so any info , would be greatly appreciated. I would like to do some trolling, as well as casting.
I've heard this lake is filled with hazards , but are marked pretty well.
And secondly, What do you look for, when you go to a lake you've never been. I know weather is a factor, but I'm thinking anything shallow that time of year , might be good. Glide baits in shallow bays... What do you think?

| I know guys who go there but for it's ample bass and pike, not so much for musky's. However there's some in there. However unlike Chautauqua, the Niagara and the St. Lawrence it's not known for it's musky's. BTW musky season isn't open until the last Saturday in May in NYS, check your dates.

Location: St. Lawrence River | The lake is full of crappies bass and pike, as well as boat hazards. Muskies are extremely uncommon though I don't know of anyone chasing them lol.. |

| Take a look over here on Lake Ontario United at some of this guy's posts from the Finger Lakes. Might be worth a charter followed up with the rest of your time in your boat. He knocks some big tigers as well as walleyes too.

| ^If you are making a long trip I would not recommend spending it there...
As far as black lake, there are some nice fish caught there however mostly by bass/panfish/pike anglers. Very low density though and most of the times any muskies that are caught are probably bonked and mounted. Where are you traveling from? |

Have you ever fished chautaqua??? Might be a better and closer lake to catch some muskies. |

| If I had to pick a spot for musky's in NYS it would be Lake Chautauqua not far from the Penn. border. Plenty of musky's and some real big ones to. Also easy access and easy to fish.

Yes, with a few exceptions. But I believe black lake falls under the last Saturday in may rule. |
