Looking at a possible trip down to Marco Island in April this year. Anyone know if Ben Olson is still guiding out of that area? of if you can suggest things to do, see or stay with the family down there that would be great.

I was on Marco Island last month Tarpon Fishing with SFP Outfitters. Jon and Todd are really nice guys and they know what they are doing. We caught 3 and lost a couple.

As far as things to do, it is really slow down there. I heard it is heaven's waiting room.

We ate twice at DaVinci's really good food.

Good Luck

You can have DaVinci's give me an Island pizza and a glass of whiskey by the pool and I'm good. I'm sure Ben will be guiding out of Marco. I have fished with Ben and sfp had a great time with both and hope to do it again in April

Check out Craig Cats Back Water Adventures . I think the kids will have fun doing this. I did not do it but some friends did and had fun. you will see most of the same stuff while fishing. Air boat ride out of Everglades City

I just got back from Marco Island. I go down and fish with SFP Fishiing Outfitters 4-5 trips a year. April will have Tarpon in and out around Marco in the Salt migrating. Give Jon Sebold of SFP Fishing Outfitters a call and book a trip. You won't regret it. April's a good time to find lots of Tarpon. There's a ton to do on and around Marco. Shopping, awesome beaches, food. You can run down to Everglades City for airboat rides, gators and stuff like that. Also, make a trip downtown Naples for awesome food and shops. Very neat town...lots and lots of money!! I just got back from a 5 day trip fishing with SFP and again stuck some nice big adult Tarpon. Actually leaving for Captiva tomorrow morning with the family and taking my wife out to fish with Jon and hopefully land her first Tarpon.

Plenty of Snook in South Florida and they are blast to catch on topwaters, especially when they are +40 inches.

Just got back from Captiva Island and a 1 day trip with SFP Fishing Outfitters. Took my family down like we do each December to Captiva for 8 days and it was awesome as usual. I had a trip booked with Jon Sebold of SFP Fishing Outfitters. Just a 1 day trip this time because this was a family fun trip but my wife (who's not a fisher woman by any means) says "hey, I want to go Tarpon fishing with you! I've never been more excited in my life when it comes to fishing! I gave her every chance to back out because I've done it a 100 times and know it's a long long day! She still committed and I woke her up at 4am, left Captiva, drive 2 hours south, met up with Jon and launched the skiff. We then drove the skiff another hour or so deep into the Everglades. You wouldn't think so in S. Florida but when the fresh and saltwater meet its gets chilly in the morning! Really chilly! So we bundled her up for the long not ride and still no complaints! For guys like us on this forum we'll suffer, freeze, drive hours in truck or boat to find and chase fish. For my wife I thought "oh gosh, she's gonna hate this adventure." She sucked it up, smiled and wanted to experience what I'm so passionate about outside of our kids and marriage. We finally get to our spot and 1st drift we set the hooks on 3 Tarpon in the 130#-170# range. One fish hooked jumped and ran at the boat. Jon who we had fishing to increase the odds of my wife fighting a Tarpon had to "hip check" a Tarpon when it nearly jumped in the boat and on the bow. It was epic! My wife said "holy f$cking sh$t" and was blown away at the size of the fish in person. She's seen all the fish I've hooked and landed but reality set in when she's seems a 150# 6-7' fish nearly land on her! Moments later we set the hook on a beast of a fish in the 170# class size just 20' feet from boat. Once the hookset was dug in, the fish turned hard, creating a "sling shot" effect and the plug came flying back at us at lightening speed hitting me dead square in the face and between the eyes! A huge shout out to Costa Sunglasses because the never shattered! Treble hooks hit my lenses and nose! Blood drawn and buff stained but the lenses never shattered! Just a gash on my nose and lenses. Again, she was blown away and a little scared cause she witnessed it all! Jon and I played it off as its no big deal and moments later my wife is hooked onto a 130# Tarpon she ended up fighting and landing all on her own. It was so cool to see my wife of 16 years fighting a Tarpon, doing what I love and smiling! Such cool stuff to see! We ended up with Jon and SFP fighting 11 Tarpon by 1pm that day. My wife got to see a bunch of big gators in their natural habitat and enjoy the special remote scenery of the Everglades. She loved it! The rest of the week I took my kids (8 and 5) fishing all around Captiva and at the end of 8 days we lost count at 100 Snook, Jack Crevalle's, sheepshead, and other fish! We're talking nice to averaged sized respectible Snook for any angler. We broke so many off on docks and Dolphins. We had a great time as a family doing family stuff and fishing. Any serious fisherman that has a family and looking for the perfect blend of old Florida, great fishing, food, swimming, restaurants and wife/kid stuff is crazy not to head to Captiva. Life's short...get down there!
