I have narrowed my search to upgrade to the 73sv, in particular for creating my own maps in smaller lakes and CHIRP. Will I be happy?

The Garmin map for Lotw is terrible, FYI. The units are cool.

Is Garmin out with their own mapping software now?

I had a 93sv for a season. I sold it as i was not happy with the mapping. Switched to Humminbird to get Lakemaster back. It's a good unit and features for the price but the mapping is just not what i liked.

The whole Humminbird G2 and G2N line up now has AutoChart Live in the Helix 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12 models. Something to considering if you really want to stay in that 7" size and want DIY mapping ability and the option to have LakeMaster maps.
