Thinking back, I want to say I hooked and lost my first in about 1984. So we're both old, but you're probably better than me at this.

32 years for me. First muskie July 1984.

Started fishing for them regularly, and with intent on advancing the learning curve, in October 1991. Still learn a lot each season.

Since 1981. I won't say how long it took to take my first one or how long after that it took to break the 41" mark! It's embarrassing. Appreciate the honesty!

Hooked (and lost) my first musky in 1985 or maybe 1986. Didn't start targeting them specifically until 2004.

1986 for me. A friend and I had never been Muskie fishing and wanted to try. Grabbed a Midwest Outdoors Mag and picked a place to go for a week in October, had an unbelieveable time. That winter went out to all the sport and boat shows and bought "Muskie" gear as we went with just some heavier bass spinning gear, and a Ranger 680T which I still have. and have been loving every chance I get to head back up north. You never know what you are going to see when you are on the water chasing those things!

Started as a sophomore in HS, in June of 1983 on the Chippewa Flowage, Deerfoot Lodge, and got skunked! Even the legendary Bobby Cammack couldn't help me in that cold front. 1984 caught my 1st one on North Twin 29 3/4" on figure 8, legal was 30" back then. 1985 caught my 1st legal on Lac Vieux Desert 41 1/4", and Grandma had it mounted for me by Lax. 18 years later I got my 1st 50" on LOTW. In 2005 I landed my largest to date at 54 1/2". Caught a couple that likely weighed more since, but nothing longer. It's been a great ride and I'm not getting off anytime soon!

First time I went specifically targeting them was fall 04'. Guide hooked up and handed me the rod. So I didn't "really" catch it IMO. But I was hooked. Bought my boat in 07 and have been addicted ever since. I only get 10-20 days a year to target them but did get my first 40+" two years ago. Ended that season with 10 fish all being 34-40". This year I blanked. Did see some big girls but no takers and didn't get out this fall. Work schedule sucks but plan on moving to the north woods in next 5 years, so I hope to fish every day I can at that point.

It was so long ago the hot topic was not what reel for double tens, but how to quickly and humanely dispatch the muskie before it tore your boat up.

Started when I was 16 or so, which means I have been chasing muskies for 48 years. I have no idea how many I've boated, but used to average 125 a year when I was guiding.

1995, 32 incher on a Rizzo Whiz, thought it was the stupidest looking bait ever. Shook for 10 minutes and realized this was the fish for me. Next to family, it is my passion.

Caught my first Muskie in late October of 2016. She was 43 inches long and she swam off strong when I released her. Plan on making more Muskie fishing trips in the future since these fish are extremely fun to catch.

I caught my first muskie in Vilas County, Wisconsin, in 1972.
I was 13 years old.
It was also the same year I shot my first deer with a bow. Also in Vilas County.
I fished them for about 15 more years, then focused on bass. Got back into muskie fishing around 2005.
Retired in 2009, and been fishing on Vermilion full time for muskies, for four to five months, during the season.

51 in Muskie in my waders casting for Small Mouths in Nov on 10lb test and a Arkie 1/4 oz. jig & pig in 1978. Almost 40 yrs ago. That was the best and worst day fishing I can remember. Best because I found out why other fish are just bait, and worst because it be came an itch I can't scratch!!!

40+ years ago, bought my first car, drove out to Pewaukee on opening day. With my hip waders, ugly stick, and 10lb test blue stren, and a #3 mepps, and a 4" steel leader, beached my first musky at a whopping 33", which still sits on my basement wall.......3,800+ muskies later....lots of memories...here we are

41 st year for me--first Legal fish .. OCT 1975---34"--9" Bobbie Bait...... caught 3 legal that weekend and I was hooked. Now I haven't actually TARGETED ONLY MUSKY during this time----Raised a couple of Boys and we went through the time period of family fishing together with the wife where we would fish for anything-----But Many of these 41 years have been ONLY MUSKY FISHING SEASONS.......RETRIEMENT is basically here---Finished up a few things and have started to look for a PLACE ON A LAKE to spend my summer and Fall------SO--- I plan on getting some more quality years going here soon...

34 years and counting. Started in 1982, in Michigan. First Pike and first Muskie caught on that same week-long family reunion vacation. First Pike caught on the traditional red/white Daredevil spoon and first Muskie caught on a Rapala Shad Rap (not Super Shad Rap) in Perch pattern. Hooked ever since. Still consider myself a multi-species angler, as I enjoy fishing for many different species of fish, but I'm very passionate about fishing for the Muskies.
