Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Sue and I fished multi-specie all week, boating walleyes, bass, Pike to 38", and a couple muskies. We spent three out of six evenings on the dock because of thunderstorms and high winds, but had a great trip. We boated two muskies, a 49 ( Jerko) and a mid- thirties (Violent Strike), and lost a couple others. The trip was Sue's first to Canada. Her goal was to catch fish, see lots of loons and eagles, and a moose. The fish were willing, the eagles and loons everywhere, and the moose, until today, not visible. We saw three on the way home early this morning, a cow and a calf right next to the road and a cow actually IN the road on 502, refusing at first to give way, completeing the trip! We had a great time at Indian Point camp, thanks to Shannon, Jordan, and Chris. The fish fry during 85 mile per hour winds was 'interesting', too. One of the evening thunderstorms gave us a double rainbow, bright enough to appear as though one could go to the base and look straight up into the colors. I blew the big fish of the trip, losing her after a brief battle. I saw her one more time, but couldn't get her to eat. She missed a surface bait (came nearly all the way out of the water) the second evening, so I asked Sue to pitch hers over to the area, and she politely let me know she felt she needed a bit more practice on pike and muskies a bit smaller first. The fish hit a glider Wednesday, and was stuck for awhile, but the head shake across the surface did me in. Next time, I guess! We 'natural fished'all week except for a walleye dinner excursion on Thursday, getting out on the water about the crack of 10AM. All in all, a very relaxing honeymoon, to be suplemented by a Cancun trip in April and another Goon trip, probably a 4 day jaunt in September.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Mark, You are correct, edited a bit. SVL, no, I would scare the paddiddle out of women and children for blocks fishing like that. Women would scream, dogs would howl, the RCMP would have entered the mayhem immediately, and I still would be gracing a Dryden cell. Natural fishing is getting up when you feel like it (no alarm clock) eating breakfast, having a couple cups of coffee, and hitting the water when it feels right. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Sure, all the 50" fish went upcurrent to Butler and Trap (heheheh). Nope, not even SORT of true. The big girls are alive and well in the Goon. The big fish in Contact Bay I was chasing all week was in (conservatively) the low 40# class. I stay at Indian Point Camp on the Goon because of the fish I see(and sometimes catch). BIG fish. BIG fish. |
