HG 43 inches per turn
PG 30 inches per turn |

Boy has this topic been discussed a bunch and to each his own, they both will work.
But I will say the PG cranks so easy that it requires very little effort to crank the handle faster. Even if you increase the handle speed by 1/3 (which is easy to do with a PG) you are now bringing in 40 inches which is the same a the HG. If you are not able to sustain the same handle speed with the HG because it cranks hard the PG could (I say could) even be faster. I use the PG and have no problem blowing the blades out of the water when I am burning them. I am 56 years old and feeling 30 plus years of muskie fishing, but if I was in my 40s I may be voting for the HG?
To me cranking big blades is no longer a problem like it was years ago as there are several good reels for that now (Beast & S and other I have no experience with). For me the pain still comes during the figure 8 from the lateral force it puts on the wrists and hands.
So fish for 4 or 5 months and then let the body recover for hopefully another year. |

Location: Contrarian Island | I've stood right next to guys with PGs..we cast at the same time, same distance, my bucktail is in 25% faster than theirs.. PG brings them in easier, but no chance a guy beats me with a PG...
if you want fast, get HG...if you want medium speed and 'easier' get the PG... |

However if:
You are a young animal like (Brad Nelson) get the HG.
If you are an old animal like me get the PG.
If you are not an animal don't get a Tranx.
Make sense? |

| cripes all this talk about reeling being hard. Does anyone actually get worn out from cranking?
Don't get me wrong, my body feels the burn. but it's from launching casts, working glide baits (elbow), and hanging on to the dang rod/reel while burning big bucktails. The actual turning of the handle is the easiest part about it. (With any reel that has a decent handle.) |

| PG all the way. If you can't get it going fast enough with that you are lolly gagging. Spooled to the top of course. |

I agree for the most part. I have a Revo Toro S60, and there are times when my cranking had does get sore. If I try to move smaller baits as fast as I can, I am moving my hand pretty fast, and it does get sore. |

Im in with this reply. When i crank a pg hard and fast its moving pretty dam fast. If you like throwing supermodels also the pg is nice for them also. You can buy any hs reel and burn smaller bucktails. |

There is a small window in the season when some fish in only a few lakes in couple States that want a Bucktail burned faster then a TRANX PG can bring them in.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | FYI If you buy a PG or a HG if that's not right for you you can switch GEARS in your TRANX for well under $100.00
It takes about 20 mins to switch gears.

Well....I've seen days from june thru sept where the faster bucktails in the boat got the hits/action... to me 4 months is not a small window... speed kills.

| If i want real speed i'll use my trinidad 16N. (Yeah not as user friendly as Tranx)Line pickup is great and all, but it also depends on what hands the reel is in and how hard you want to work at it. For my use though that Tranx PG gets the job done great. Most of the time if I'm burning I'm doing smaller blades anyway So i could go to HG.(or some other blade than a 10 during daylight hours) those days of burning 10's are done for me on the lake i primarily fish on.
Usually when there is a difference in my boat speed wise and that faster bucktail is getting bit more often, its a pretty noticeable and drastic difference. One guys flying and the other lollygagging by comparison.

Location: Madison, WI | I struggled with this question for a while before i ordered mine before the season started.
I ended up going with the HG and put an LJV handle on it and im glad i did.
My HG can slow roll 12's down to where the blades almost stop spinning, and can also blow them out of the water.
If you get the PG and want to fish blades fast if you get a follow you wont be able to speed up much more for the last 20 feet to get a fish to commit.
also
The retrieve is just one part of the fatigue, casting and holding the reel are the rest. If you really want things to be easier there are plenty of lighter weight and more ergonomic options than the tranx pg in that 30 IPT range. |

| Yeah depends on your hand size when it comes to fatigue also. And it may be easier but you won't find a more durable option than a tranx besides maybe a trinidad which is even tougher to palm. I am able to palm the Tranx and its comfortable to cast all day for me. I actually hook my fore finger a bit into the hole under the level wind for a little added stability. I can definitely see maybe a toro S / beast or something of that nature being more desirable for those that find the tranx hard to grip for sure.
