Anyone have a shallow running outboard jet boat. If so what do you have?

I'm running a G3 1860 CCJ with a 90/65 Yamaha jet outboard. It's a great boat but definitely wish I had the 115/80 Yamaha on it.

coondog,
What are your complaints for the 90/65? How do you like the boat itself? I am thinking of getting that same boat.

What waters do you fish?

Wally, what gauge is the aluminum on that Blazer? What kind of performance are you getting as well? You can send me a PM if you want. I've been interested in upgrading my 100x welded over hull. Thanks

Gator trax boats are pretty sweet. 3/16" hulls.

Fish4musky1,
Overall I love the boat. It's heavy enough to withstand beating some rocks, but it'll only run around 26 mph wot loaded with gear and two people. It's got plenty of room, but rod storage is nonexistent for long Muskie rods. I made some modifications to fit my needs and it works on the rivers I fish. I can run comfortably in 12" of water with no problems. Some guys will say they can run in only 8" of water, but I've had some close calls in that shallow. Things that I don't like about the boat are the live well drains are below the bottom level of the hull.... You'll have them pinned shut pretty quickly from hitting rocks. The larger 115/80 will get you on plane quicker and you can actually run shallower at higher speeds. You have to be careful with sharp turns at full speed, especially on lakes...I've spun my boat like a jet ski and believe me it'll pucker you butt. I primarily fish the New River and James River in Virginia. Feel free to pm me and I can give you my number if you want some more details. Jets are fun, but there is a learning curve!

Running a G3 HP180 with a 225 opti jet. Basically an aluminum bass boat with a jet on it. Stepped hull on the boat is great as I don't have to worry about the slide like coondog mentioned. My rig is a bit on the heavy side and cuts through a decent chop pretty well. It does draft a little more at slower speeds than most, but wide open it only needs about 6" or so. I agree that I am more comfortable running in 12" or so, but on sections of the river I know well I routinely run skinnier.

If you're in the market and asking, first I'd determine what you need the boat to do. Also what's the waters like you will be running. How many people, gear, etc? Jets are an absolute blast and often a necessity but there are many flavors. My favorite hull personally is a .080 Blazer SS tiller.
