I have a new Lund Proguide. I am finding the top of the gunnels are becoming extremely scratched up from the net handle rubbing and scraping on it, mainly when working on a fish in the net. Anyone have similar issues with their boat? Any suggestions?

Agreed^^^. How about sliding some conduit insulation over the handle at that point or so, plus it may float if you fumble it.

This is an excellent idea. And cheap if you decide you don't like it.

I just bough a new one too, and I am seeing the same thing. At first I had no idea what it was from, then it dawned on me that it's right where I work fish into the net when I'm fishing solo.

Great idea on the conduit insulation.

Or just a wrap of black electrical tape on the handle.

I've got some fairly significant scratches on the sides of my boat from netted fish hooks, so I hold the net away from the boat for the initial fish thrashing deal, that might help some along with covering the handle.

I tried hanging a shammy over the side to avoid the hook scratches, it was a hasle, but would guess it would be easier to do for the gunnel.

As an aside; I started using the shammy to cover up tangled lure hooks in the net to grab the fish… that's works great and is a faster and safer way to deal with that issue.

Very correct, it is a great problem to have. I am definitely gonna tape up my net and maybe add some insulation or something to the handle. Great idea.

Fishing solo is the main reason it happens. Need to support the net with the gunnels when using one hand.

Lucked out and got a 45" last night and she wasn't cooperative enough to swim into the net.

Had the same problem. Took an old bike tire inner tube, cut it open and slid it over handle and solved the issue. Smaller than a pool noodle. I also have not caught a fish in a while so that helps also!

Yeah my net is a collapsable Beckman. If I tape it, it won't collapse. Oh well.
