I'm sure this has been talked about before but I can't seem to find anything when I search for it. I've been thinking about going to straight flourocarbon tied directly to my braid as a leader similar to what the guides at Andy Meyers do but I cant' decide what knot to use. I've read the that the improved albright in a good one, the double uni, the slim beauty but now I see one that was tested above all others called the FG knot. See the link below. Not sure how well this would hold up musky wise or if I would trust it but if they use it in saltwater I would think it would be strong enough.

I tie it a bit different, was introduced to it as the sebile knot, but its all i used the last 3 year.

65-100lb braid to 200lb hard mono.

Also use it for zander jigging, 15lb braid to 30lb fluoro.

Alberto knot for me is simple and wont slip ever. I used it for years when I was tying direct, I went back to a tie on leader after a while. Only problem is the tag end faces your lure so it wont pass through you eyelets well. As long as your not using a 3ft leader it should be ok. That's a popular one with the striper guys.

I have done stress tests on most of these knots and time tests on abrasion and the FG knot seems to hold up the best. Its also fairly easy to tie once you have the hang of it.

I use the alberto knot as well for bass fishing rigs and it holds up well, never had any failures. I will have to check out this fg knot though...

FG. Many online videos to learn it. I like the method that uses hands and legs/feet...seems complex, but once learned is quick and easy. Worth learning if you are dead set on this sort of connection.

I've used the FG knot for a few seasons now and it's a very impressive knot for the heavier braid to fluorocarbon leader. Has yet to fail me.

For Tarpon, I use a Hufnagel (figure 8) knot on the Flourocarbon. Then take your braid and run it through the figure 8 underneath one side of the and then over top. So your basically weaving your braid through the "8" of the knot. Then pull enough braid through and finish up with a uni knot wrapping the braid 3 times around the Flourocarbon. Then pull each line until the Hufnagel Knot locks down into the Uni Knot and your good to go. I have not had any failures with this technique on big Tarpon.

I agree with this!!!
I have only used this knot for the last several years, never had ANY problems with this knot...
I tie my knots like the video I link below. But now it has been such a long time since I last actually watched this video so can't say I am using anything near his "numbers" of turns/knots but have a system of my own in regards of how many of anything I feel confident in having on my knot :D
