I have some jerkbaits that always seem to make a mess of the fish - net, etc. I was contemplating pinching down the barb to minimize these issues. Anybody else had success with doing this and not had the a loss in lost fish occur? Aside from slack line occurring of course.
Thanks,

P.S. Looking to avoid the trail and error and ruining expensive Gamagatsu hooks if it's a problem.

Barbless hooks are mandatory where I fish for trophy pike in northern Saskatchewan. I was a little nervous when the regulation came into place but I can honestly say I haven't lost any more fish with barbless as I have with barbed hooks. A very high landing ratio, safer for you and the fish!!

I lose enough fish the way it is. Can't risk pinching barbs

I cut most of my hooks out of fish. Do even bother trying to RIP hooks out of fish. I have a good supply of hooks of most major sizes in a box in the boat.pair of kimpex, split ring pliers n new hooks is easiest for me.

All of my barbs have been pinched. Keep 'em pinned tight and there's no issue. So much easier to release. Also easier if you get a hook in your self. You may still need to cut a hook here and there if they absolutely inhale so don't ditch the knipex.

^^^ This for me too and I can't say I've lost anymore fish due to being barbless on everything from trout flies to musky trebles! Much easier on you and the fish.

Been barbless for 20 plus years now.

barbless is the way to go, get a hook buried in you and you will thank god it is barbless.
