Can the palm side plate be removed for lubrication of the reel? If so how?

Location: Waukee, IA		Yes. Unscrew the top screw that runs through the frame, the screw head will be on the crank side of the reel. After its loosened enough the palm plate will rotate about a quarter or fifth of a turn backward, then you can pull it off
