Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I leave for Lake of the Woods tomorrow and end up with 4 stitches in my right thumb from a trailer light bulb breaking upon removal...
5 along the inside portion of my right thumb... right where my thumb will grasp the reel handle.
impeccable timing!! |

| It's always something, isn't it?
I'd get some surgical gloves, plenty of tape and neosporin and hope for the best. Fished through a lot of hand injuries over the years... Best advice I can give you is keep it as clean as you can, dressed well, and make sure you wash the heck out of it and re-bandage as soon as you're off the water. Only had one instance on a 4 day saltwater trip where a nasty cut was starting to look pretty iffy by day 3. Little different there - salt water is nasty, and your hands are in all sorts of cut bait all day. At least with musky fishing your hands are out of the water most of the day.
Good luck! |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I've got some finger covers for it, and it will be kept covered and dry as much as possible. Neosporin and bigger waterproof bandages should help a lot as well.
Guessing I will be on advil pretty heavy as part of this. Stitches are good to get wet after 24 hours per doctor, so that is good...just not submerged for a long period of time.
hoping the pain will be much less. I hit the water sunday afternoon, so a couple days of little use should be better pain-wise...

| I spent 2 days burning showgirls with 4 stitches in my reeling thumb last summer. Had the EVA handle for the NaCl and grasped kit between my index and forefinger. Not fun, but worked because of little resistance. Good luck and hopefully Karma will owe ya a pig! |

| Ouch. Hope it works out OK. A couple follows and/or bites might help take your mind off of it. |

| May want to have you doctor call in an antibiotic for you just in case. I had pink eye the day before a long trip and still had fun and do not let it ruin your trip. |

| I like the jerk bait idea. Just keep an easy tempo and easy on the casts. I put a 7/0 hook through my hand and 3 hours later I was getting a 45" off my line. Agree with new skin/ super glue, pills and neosporin. Gloves also just keep them dry, that means sweat free too. |

Location: MN | You may want to buy a jigripper. Cut my thumb up pretty bad releasing a fish last year. Really should have got stitches. The jigripper allowed me to keep fishing when it was very difficult to palm the reel. |

Location: St. Lawrence River | Dude get one of those handles that bolt onto the rod. I can't remember what they are called, you see em from time to time on YouTube. There was a thread about em. Seems like you wouldn't much need your thumb |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Well Everyone, I made it through... No pain killers used at all and kept the stitches covered all week. casted using my left hand for a day and a half, then switched to right handed (my normal way). used pressure a bit lower on my thumb for spool control and managed just fine.
week was not as good as hoped for fishing. Hit heavy bloom on the water so the fish were hard to come by. managed 4: 44.5, 44, 42.5 and a 37. All on rocks.
Stitches came out yesterday evening. still a ways to go for healing, but glad the little strings are out of my thumb.
