I wondering what you guys use on your trolling setups for line. I currently have two down rods(black rivers) that I run 80lb braid on. going to add a couple of board rods and was wondering if I should go with braid or a heavy mono. I see people us both. Planning on getting a few TDR's for boards.

I run braid on down rods but use 40lb mono for boards.

Braid for downrods and boards. Mono for downriggers. You're going to have to get the upgraded clips anyways for boards so might as well go with braid. Personal feelig.

I had been using braid for everything but now I went back to mono for boards. I can't find a clip that won't slip with braid anymore, musky or salmon. I had to double wrap the locking clips. Mono does not slip. I even segmented a 3' piece of 40lb mono on all my leadcore and copper setups with braid backing. Works great.

I agree with the above...we use #50 Big game mono for boards, Braid on the rest...

I use braid with a mono leader on my planer rods. The boards always run on the mono to avoid sliping. Another advantage is that the braid is a lot thinner than the mono so it will have a lot less wind resistance and lets the board run further out.

Anyone try the new offshore boards pulling big baits with braid yet? I'm really getting sick of the TX-44's and double wrapping/having the rear pin wear my line. Thinking of switching over to mono next year for my board rods but still pretty hesitant.
