Fished Eagle last week - through the new moon. Until Thursday, every fish we saw was on the rocks in the wind. Finally saw two "weed" fish the last couple of days we were there (and we pounded some good looking weeds all week). That said, another group in camp saw all of their fish in the weeds. Ran east one day, but spent most time in Portage Bay, Detour Point, and the back channel areas. Water temps 69-73, mostly towards the top of that range. South and southwest winds were consistently good.

My eldest son topped us all with a 52" that ate in the eight. Hooks came out in the net, and he later found a nick in his line that parted with practically no effort - the musky gods smiled on him that day. My biggest was a 44". The group pounding weeds started the week with a 51". Bottom line - you had to keep trying different options.

Most action was on blades. FWIW - Dadson 9mm bullets cast well into the wind, but double 8's, 9's and 10's were all effective. Downsizing in cold front conditions seemed to help. Topwater baits were a distant second for producing action.

We moved solid 4' fish each day (most days multiple 4' fish moved), and had action each day. Great trip! That said, some questions/observations:

1. Where did the little Northern Pike go? Eagle used to be seemingly full of "hammer handles". Not so this trip.
2. Rumors were rife of a 60+" having been netted earlier this year by the OMNR. Never saw a photo. Anyone able to confirm? Even if false, it was fun to hear.
3. Seemingly huge year classes of fish in the 38-44" range. The future looks bright for the Muskie fishery.
4. Many boats on the lake fishing Muskies.
5. As usual, I found rocks that were - to me - new. Surprise!
6. Border crossings were pleasant experiences - each way. Be prepared, be honest, and be within legal limits.

Can't wait to go back next year.

I was there the week before you. I caught 13- 50", 49", 48", 47.5" and 46.5" were the biggest. Half on rocks half in the weeds
Caught everything on Spanky 99's they cast great against the wind.
We were wondering about the pike also normally they are a pain in the butt went days with out seeing any which is nice.

I fished the same week as Jeff, my first time on Eagle in 30 years. We fished mostly community spots, both rocks and weeds.
We struggled all week finding muskies, no shortage of 30" to 35" pike. The highlight of the week was a big fish 55"-57" follow to the boat after a trolling pass, couldn't get her to turn on the 8.
