Location: Michigan | I live in SE Michigan and have been muskie fishing for about 2 years. I fish Lake St. Clair and some of the inland lakes in the Lower Peninsula. I have fished some of the reservoirs in Ohio and have made it to Webster and the Barbee Chain once. My biggest fish to date is 47.5 which I caught trolling. My biggest casting is 43".
I am thinking of taking my first Muskie fishing trip north next year. I have never fished anywhere in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ontario, etc. I would like to go to a lake where I could have good potential for multiple fish days and a chance at a 50" fish. Not too concerned about anything bigger at this point... In other words, I am after numbers of decent size fish, not after the true giant. I would like to spend the majority of the time casting, but would like to be able to troll now and then to shake things up. I would likely hire a guide for a couple days, but would then like to go at it on my own. I have a 19' glass boat that I could trailer, but would probably prefer to rent a boat on the lake. Drive-to or fly-to destinations are both OK.
Where would you guys go? I am very flexible for the time of year that I go.

Location: Athens, Ohio | I'd go on the Muskie First Sabaskong Bay outing and follow that up with the MF Cass Lake outing! You'll get to fish with some of the best sticks and finest people, learn new spots and techniques, and have just a real good time doing it. m |

Location: Alsip, Il | I would have to concur with prevous post Lake of The Woods would be the place to go. For about 5 years straight my boat (notice I didn't say me) average at least one fish 25 lbs. or better (all released). And we usually average 4 to 6 fish a week with some heartbreak stories. From my experience LOW in the summer would be the best place to have a chance at a 30lber. casting. Now, for a superlunker 45lbs., there are probally better places. Last thought is please try to hook up with someone who knows the lake, either through MuskieFirst outing or go long with some Muskie Inc., club outing (rates for places are usually cheaper)they maynot show you their secret spots, but they will let you know some good general areas and help you navigate hazardous areas. God bless, Al |

Location: Michigan | Very good suggestions... Any other thoughts? I prefer remote locations where fishing presure isn't too high... Am I dreaming? I have done some pike fishing up in to Ontario and Manitoba and really enjoy being the only one on a lake or in a large bay... |
