This website gives up to the minute water temps on Lake Mendota: http://metobs.ssec.wisc.edu/buoy/

Due to its size and depth, Mendota obviously is cooler than Monona or Waubesa in the summer, but it does give you a basic idea of what the local temps are.

Gonna be warm for a while on Pewaukee and surrounding lakes. A cool night or two isn't going to do it. I'm guessing 2 more weeks and then we shall see.

The good news? Bass are biting. And the harbor has a lot of fish in it.

Give the fish a break. Don't see why 3 weeks not fishing will hurt anyone. Go get some Lake Michigan Kings. They put up a way better fight than stressed out muskies. They also are very good to cook or smoke. Lots of eyes on the local waters here in Southeastern Wisconsin watching for those who choose to fish muskies. Don't be one of those people. We all want to fish bad and it's hard when others don't care and fish anyways. Luckily Pewaukee has had very few muskie anglers on the water this past week. I got a few pictures of boats sent to me who were muskie fishing. Two were guides with clients. Sure would like to post them here but I will take the high road and just send them a text with their picture guiding in 81-83 degree water. Give them a break people.

If you want to musky fish just run up to Green Bay water temperature is high 50s maybe low 60s and it's not that far.

If you want to help support Pewaukee and other SE Wisconsin Lakes, put the rods down (all of them) and head to Germanfest over the next few days. Milwaukee Muskies Inc will be there selling raffle tickets for a new Ranger Angler fishing boat. $5 per ticket, 3 tickets for $10!!!
Does it get any better than going to the lakefront, grabbing a stein a beer, a sausage with kraut and winning a new Ranger boat?
And, here's the best part...MCMI gets to keep a portion of the sales as a fundraiser. These funds will be used to stock local waters with more muskies!

I took the family for a boat ride on Sunday. East end was 81.5 degrees. West end was 82.5 degrees. Some part of the west end that were calm had temps of 83+.
Saw a couple dead carp floating on the surface, more than a couple small dead bluegills. No muskies.
Saw a couple of fishing boats out, all were flipping for bass.
Water is still pretty darned warm.

78.5 in the AM yesterday, 82 by 3 PM.

Fished bass all day...several musky encounters (unfortunately), which has been a common occurrence on bass baits this year when I have been out.

So the consensus on this thread is its too warm to fish. Yet the Cap City Muskies Inc has posted pics of two 50s caught over the last week. What gives? That doesn't seem to be promoting responsible musky angling if the water really is too warm to fish.

Madison chain was 77-78 Friday sat and Sunday last weekend. It got back over 80 Monday. Still to many guys fishing in 80+ deg. Water.
Saw the face book pics also looks like someone needs a bump board

Posting pics of 50s isnt going to help that IMO.

I've heard the same, that the water temps had dropped for a couple days.

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?site_no=05429000

Seems to support that. My take is if someone said, yesterday you prob would have died if you go swimming, today you will probably be alright, but tomorrow you will prob die. I prob wouldn't be swimming today....

To each their own, I just dont agree with CCMI posting those pics I guess.

Was out on Waubesa yesterday afternoon/night thinking maybe temps had come down a bunch based on CCMI is posting pictures and the number of fish being registered and the temperatures those that had caught them reported. I had 82 - 83+ degrees everywhere I went and ended up fishing for walleyes. Saw 3-4 boats fishing musky. Although this is just a "model", this site: http://www.infosyahara.org/temp_waubesa is off by 5+ degrees.

Personally? I think we are in a "grey" area. Water temps hovering around 80. Some days over, some days under. I won't fish during that kind of situation. Others will. To each their own. I believe that musky league on Pewaukee was cancelled the last two weeks, including last night. Or if it was running last night, there sure weren't many guys fishing it.

I was thinking the same thing... the surface temps/shallows creeping into the "safe zone" can't help much when its still 78-79 15 feet down. which it was this past Sunday. Really hope the two bigguns made it

I was really surprised yesterday, went out in the late afternoon just to check temps and surface temps on the dark water chain where I live in Oneida county were 83 to 86, even off the mouth of two creeks the flow into the chain. Having had over a half inch of rain in the previous 24 hrs, really thought temps would be lower, in particular by the creeks. Neighbor had been out the previous morning and said the temps were 77-78 and that was before the rain. I stuck my arm in the water and it felt about the way we used to get it when our kids were toddlers. Guess I will look for pan fish the next couple days.

This is where I'm at right now, too. Even though the night time may make the surface under 80, that doesn't mean it still isn't quite warm 8-10 feet down there.
