I found some water in my lower unit yesterday. I've dumped the grease, changed the seals on the drain/fill plugs and filled it back up. I'll be testing it on the water tomorrow. If I have to rebuild the lower unit how much effort is required? I'm not a big gear head by any means but I'm usually able to figure out simple mechanisms with tinkering. Any special tools needed? Better off taking it in and seeing if the hopper bite has started on the Kinni while it sits in a mechanics lot for 2-4 weeks?

Let's hope that's all it is.
Otherwise, Not a bad job except for the special tools needed for the seals and bearing carrier.
If you have water again pull lower unit, drain it and get a pressure tester.
Just a pump that screws into drain plug and has a pressure gauge on it.
This way you can tell where the leak is if pressure drops.
A good shop manual for your motor will help tremendously.

Good Luck,

You should replace the propshaft seal that's most likely where the water is coming from. Sometimes fishing line gets around the shaft and damages the seal then water seeps in. If you rebuild the lower unit most deffently get a repair manual. Good luck with it.
