Here in SE Michigan we had 5 days straight of 80-90 degree steamy clear weather with a high steady Barometer. Today called for Strong showers and storms. The barometer started droping steadily since last midnight. Seemed like the "perfect" morning to be on the water. I took a day off and talked my brother to do the same and we were on the water by 7:30 am. We casted till about Noon with only one follow that actually struck on the 8 but missed and then was gone. We gave up casting and trolled for the next 2 hrs and boated 3 for 3 (35,38,and 40 inch). All swam away strong.
That was a great day for sure but WHY couldn't we get any action in the am? Was it purely timing? Location? Baits we were throwing vs baits we were trolling? If we kept casting would we have had results then too? The lure that caught the 40 was a jointed Believer. That by was the same lure that I had had the follow on in the morning. I sure had a tough time leaving the lake when the action was hot but had obligations.
Any insight on this casting/trolling , timing , lures discrepancy would be appriciated. Gotta keep learning, and this forum is a great help. Thanks in advance.

Help me out you guys? I would much rather catch 'em casting. Nothing beats the strike, especially at boatside. I was casting Bucktails, spinnerbaits, bodybaits, spoons (my favorite old fashoned under-rated 1 oz red eye wiggler in brass <-secrete, shh). Could it have been that they wanted the larger profile of the trolling lures? I want to think timing was key. could they turn on that fast and I missed it by stopping casting? I probably should have stopped trolling and casted the productive area but it is hard to stop what is working.

I agree about the storm, very nice action for the little time I was out. Hard to say without knowing anything about your fishing conditions. maybe they were deeper where u were trolling with the hot water temp.
slay em,
