ICAST 2016 July 12 / 15 in Sunny Florida
Maybe Shimano will replace the Curado 300??
Or will Diawa come out with a new Reel ??

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Yes, the Abu Garcia MaxToro.
5 bearings, 5.3:1 retrieve at 26" per turn, formed large paddle handle, 25 pound power stack carbon matrix drag, weighs 12.3 ounces, holds 165 yards of 50# braid, Duragear gearing, MagTrax brake system. I have used the reel for a couple months, and absolutely love it. Smooth, casts and handles well, has a great drag, and is really tough to backlash.
3 IPT slower than the Toro S, weighs almost 2 ounces less, and reel frame is different. Same drag, but 40 yards less 50# braided line capacity. I used it to throw double 8 and 9 tails, topwater, cranks, and spinnerbaits.
Will it throw big blades? I bet the gearing can take the abuse, but it's 26 IPT, so burning is out and the handle is not a single grip 'power' handle, so it's not a double 10 'burning' reel and is not designed to be.
This IS a muskie reel, and should be the answer in the ABU Garcia line-up to the 'what reel can I buy to throw most muskie lures for around $150.00 retail pricing?'
I think the MaxToro replaces the C model round reels as the economical reel of choice (suggested retail in the buck and a half range at introduction at ICAST in a couple weeks) for Muskie and Pike anglers. Nice job, ABU!

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Okuma has the Komodo 450 ( I think that's the name) coming out, we'll be there with three crews shooting, so we'll get the low-down on that reel. |

| Is the MaxToro smoother then the Toro S? The Toro S feels like the old round reels C3. |

Not even close, I have 6 of the Toro S models and they are very smooth. So is the ToroMax.
You might want to try oiling and maintaining your reel if you own a Toro S. Don't over tighten the cast control, either.

| I don't own a Toro S, but would like one for my line up.
I have looked at 3 of the Toro S at different dealers. Everyone felt - reel rough
like a C3 to me. I have 2 Toro Beast and a Toro winch and just can bring my self to by a Toro S.
Whens the MaxToro release date? July 15 same as the Rocket.
Thank you for the info! |

Location: Alex or Alek? | I used a C3 for the past 3 years as my blade reel since that was the first reel. I finally upgraded this year and bought a S this spring and its night and day difference. Not even comparable to the C3's. |

The S is leaps and bounds above the C. So much nicer. The S is a very very good reel. I fish it back to back with my Beast 60 all the time and it holds its own. |

| I too have a C3, in very good shape and just got a Toro S, after using a Revo Toro for several years. The C3 is a solid reel but no comparison to a Toro S. I have found it to be very smooth. |

I'll be there Friday, and maybe Saturday. I don't fish low profile baitcasters, so most of the musky gear has gone under my radar. Penn has a new torque spinner that I'm excited to see. Shimano has a new Ci4+ fb, and symetre. Rapala/storm/vmc is going to have a huge reveal at the show. Twitchin mullet/twitchin minnow and long cast xraps, all come with inline singles. I have pictures if I can figure out how to post them. Most of the stuff I've heard/seen has been on the iftd side of things. Loomis is revealing a new premium fly rod that I couldn't care less about. Sage has a couple new rods that I am looking forward to seeing.

Could be a decent top water/jerkbait reel. The gear ratio to IPT seem a little high though. |

I don't know, 29IPT at 6.3:1 doesn't seem too impressive. |

| I do a lot of Tarpon Fishing in SW Florida. I fly fish for them, sight cast Hogy's and plug fish for them. A couple years ago I took my Bomber Long A Mag's and put Owner Inline Single Hooks on the plugs. In 3 days I had many strikes and never hook a fish. I can't explain it but hooks never stuck into a fishes mouth. Never! I have had way more success keeping the original trebles that come on the Bomber's. When Owner came out with those new inline single hooks I was thrilled thinking I'd stick and LAND more big Tarpon but it became the complete opposite. I finally got fed up and put the trebles back on my last 2 days and my hooking and landing percentage increased again. I was very disappointed.

| wouldnt a 5.1 on the concept put the IPT at like 20 inches? Seems really slow for the ratio. the 6.3 is only 2 inches faster then the toro beast 4.9 speed. Hopefully the gears help. |

Location: Madison, WI | I think the Komodo 450 7.1:1 will be a hit. 37.7 IPT and 30 pounds of drag, and comes in Lefty version. If it holds up comparably to the Tranx at a price tag of $270 they'll have a real winner there. Would be interesting to see if any other handles fit on them to try to replicate the Tranx HG + LJV handle combo? |
