| So how do you guys get over losing once in lifetime fish. Was fishing Boom lake last Tuesday and about 830 pm tied into huge fish. Largest head shakes I felt in 40 years of musky fishing. After about 5 minutes fish came up to surface about 80 feet from boat and just layed on surface about 30 seconds. Even from that distance I could see the massive size. Went down again and I could gain a little ground but would lose it again. After about 10 more minutes I had him next to boat but down about 20 feet. Never felt a fish so heavy to lift up. Finally got him up on surface. I have a couple 50 plus inch fish at over 35# but this thing was way larger. Had depth raider in mouth crosswise so felt good. Made 1 move dive down. When I started to get up to surface I though to get me camera out of pocket just so I could have proof if things went bad. One hand on pole BAD idea. GONE GONE GONE. That fish would be around 50# no doubt. Didn't even feel like fishing rest of week and won't be back till next year. It's gonna be long year and don't think I will recover from this. |

Location: Waukee, IA | Just learn from it, skip the camera until the fish is landed. You got cocky and paid the price but I'm sure you'll find a way to deal with it. |

I'm curious, what type of gear were you using for the fight to last 15+ minutes? Seems like a very long fight if you were using muskie gear, even for a 50 pounder. |

| muskies don't fight 15 minutes..catch lots of them on walleye and bass gear.. just caught a 52" fatty on bass gear this year.. while in the heat of the "battle" fight seemed like forever, pull the video.. basically 4 minutes on 12lb test! Have caught 30 lbers on 6lb mono walleye fishing.. 6-8 minutes tops. |

| Not really scared to share info cuz I wont be back up north for another year, used all vacation. worked the flowage all day with no luck. decided to troll home through the
main basin on boom. never really trolled much before this because it was not legal. probable had way too much line out, trying to get max depth out of shallow raider. Probably had 3/4 of revo toro winch out. 60# power pro. I could also tell drag was set to light but I've messed with that before fighting fish and never really seemed to work out. 3 humps on main basin out from hodag park. Hit when I went over middle hump that topped out about 13 foot. pearch shallow raider. probably doesn't help that my rods are 6'9" but rod lockers in my ranger sport max out there. Never like 2 piece rods anyway. Probably could have put more force on her but always like to at least see what you hook. Lots of fish stories out there but at least for me this was the largest live muskie I've seen including follow ups. too bad it took 40 years. Good news is that I'm only 47. Maybe wife will let me get bigger boat? |
