We are barely seeing 70° water here in northern Minnesota, I have to believe they are a bit behind up there. If that is the case I would look more at the Stuff closer to the spawning bays and less out toward the reefs. Will be up for our first trip one week later

Just got back from a week up there. Between crazy weather and post spawn fish it was a little tough. The ones caught were sub 40" and we only saw one over. Your timing might be about right.

That'd be a first! Hope you're right.

Parts of Sab dirty, visability only a foot in places. Good Sat. evening released in the water a 36ish, saw two upper forties. Lots Northerns in weeds. Muskies I saw were on rocks. Big storm Fri night . Sat night wind started building and Sun. morning gail force. Anyone went out Sunday morning has one big set of kohunas.

Well you sure did a lot be4tter than I did. When I saw 6 footers coming into Manitou Island Sunday morning. I packed up. Never left early when I was 40, but now at 72 it seems easier to fish another day.

Water was a little high, temps 69 - 73 (morning to afternoon and depending on the day). Water was really dirty/cloudy, and all the runoff from Wednesday's rain probably won't help. But fishing has been good.

Just got back on monday. Was only there for 2 days. We got 3 and saw another half dozen. Biggest was a 42. Topwater and bucktails had all the action. Water is still very dirty...hard to see follows so don't give up until your sure. Although Obabikon was clean if you go half way back or better. Water temp was 72ish....but thats going to skyrocket in the next couple days.

Came up late Sat. Sunday was my best day ever, 33, 39, 43, and one a little over 48. Brother got a small one. Fish active at almost every spot. Then storm with big north wind hit late with alot of rain.
Then Monday the heat and calm came. Clear blue skys since. No fish seen Monday. No muskies Tuesday, a couple northern, one 39. Today is brutal. So bad we EVEN tried trolling. Then went swimming for awhile. We are toying with leaving tomorrow. Water temps r 92 in some spots, so probably good thing we ain't catchin, probably would b killin. Curious to know if someone out there with more skill had much luck since Sunday?

We did well Sunday but struggled Monday Tuesday also. Sounds like its good we didn't fish Wednesday. Found fish in the weeds and on rocks. Didn't try any sand spots. Max water temp we saw was 72 but i am sure it is much higher now. Back up next Wednesday

Hard to believe.....I think so too. Was just cruising near opening to Stevens and saw that on my dash mount, stopped the boat and told my brother, look at this water temp!!. Was consistently over 80 during midday.

Got here sunday afternoon and put in monday. saying its tough is an understatement . ive moved 2 fish so far with nothing to show.. even the walleye bite is off!

Big storm came through last night, cooled off the temps, but blowing pretty good today..

water temps were around 78-80 yesterday before the storm, 72-75 today..

oh well, its still better than working!

Just got back Saturday, things where slow, most fish where very lazy, fish that did
hit crushed it 3 cranks in after cast, almost all follows where low and slow. Water temps mid 80's a couple days, clear blue sky's no clouds. Seen fish every day around 10 or so, but most where just out for a Sunday stroll.

About to complete our 11th trip in the last few years, second this year. Here are some thoughts and observations. Your mileage may vary.
• Muskies are still muskies, even on LOTW.
• the sunset/dusk/first dark bite should be better than it is
• Windows rule, even up here. Amazing that you can fish a bunch of spots in the morning and not see a fish. That afternoon for an hour or two you'll see 6 fish on one reef and 3 on the next spot. And you don't know when these windows are.
• I agree with Ty Sennett, Solunar tables don't mean a thing up here
• just like back home weather trumps all. Pray for prefrontal or cloudy rainy conditions for as many days as possible. Hi skies and hi pressure make for difficult fishing. Numbers are down all over, but big fish are being caught.
• big wind sucks on big water. And this can be big water
• they just don't like to play in the 8 like they used to
• nice green cabbage in some spots where there wasn't any or much last year. Unfortunately not many fish in them
• topwater is still a great way to catch muskies
• Sab is still dirty (choc milk) but getting better in some spots
• the bloom has started
• water temps Sat - Tue were generally 72-74, tho it got to 78-79 in some calm spots this afternoon, but cooled to 76 right away by 8 pm
• LOTW is no longer a secret ?? Lots of boats all over
• I couldn't come here in July/Aug just to walleye fish. Just catching 3 for lunch every day is hard enough and cuts into muskie time. It's like trying to shoot a doe with your bow during late season when you passed a bunch earlier. Now when you want one they're hard to come by. But when in Rome...
• we had 14 fish in 3 days last trip to 51", and 4 fish in 4 days this go 'round. Pretty poor in my opinion, though we did get a 49.5
• it's still the most affordable great place to muskie fish that I am aware of. I just need to be able to come more often so I can fish more when it's good, not just when I can
• Todd and his family at Tamarack are awesome
• DP is still the man on LOTW. I appreciate his reports and encouragement. One more trip to Sab and one at the Angle.

so muskies are muskies and the moon effects them everywhere else but lotw ? guess I totally disagree with your statement the moon doesn't matter... weather trumps moon but the moon effects muskies on lotw just like every other body of water....

Yea, I've been going to LOTW for 10 years, and the moon has played a major role in our success.

Ditto on the moon!! been going to LOTW for 24 years and the moon under foot and over head to me is more important then rise or set during a full moon or new moon period.
I can go on but the moon does play a part in the action.

Totally agree with you propster. ive been here since the 17th, heading home on the 30th, and ive seen about what you have. definitely more boats up here this year than in the past, and the fishing is goofy. ive gotten 3 with the biggest a 44 but ive only seen 5 or 6 others? slow slow slow... granted now i dont fish 10-12 hours a day like i used to when younger (& dumber) but have been going in the morning and evening, so i may be missing those windows prop is referring too..

will get out in the afternoons a couple times before i go to see what ive been missing!

Just left from a week long trip. The week was good as we moved around a dozen fish each day. We boated 12 with the top being 41,43 and 44. Lost a few other nice fish as well. Cranks bucks worked well as the norm. We did not have any luck on top water baits but take that for what it's worth. Good luck

Report: Slow, slow slower. Series of storms beginning Aug,2nd, high winds during week.. two fish 47, 38. Saw 6 more. I'm going back alone and fishing all week 13th to21st.. Going to figure out where they are. Trying 2nd break trolling, bait balls in open water and deep dogs where walleyes are stacked. I'm going to figure them out. I know they are there. some of the guys are doing great. Maybe just a tough spell.

Me and my partner dabbled in Sabaskong from 8/7-8/9. Not sure what I expected, but
we were pretty taken aback by the pressure on that end of the lake. Granted, we didn't really know spots, but we only contacted maybe 12 fish ( that we could see at least in the beyond cloudy water) in that window. Hooked up with a handful or so and caught nothing even worth measuring. I'd assume if you know the spots it was better?

About the only weeds we found were growing outside the tool shed, err "cabin" rather, that we stayed at.

Late report, but 2 of us fished out of Mylies Place Aug 13-20. Arrived fairly late on the 13th so we fished 6 full days. Scratched out 10 for the week, with 48.5, 44, 41, 40, 40 being the 5 biggest. Had a few in the low/mid 30's at the start of the week.

Wasn't easy fishing. Had lots of sun and little wind. Only took the rain gear out once the whole week and we didn't even need to. Maybe we would have had more luck with a little more wind and some clouds or even a storm system move through?

Not a whole lot of a pattern, but we caught our fish from rocks. Midlake rocks held the bigger fish. Caught about 1/2 our fish banging Depthraiders into rocks, and about the other half on bucktails, double 9's and 10's. The 48 was on a black/chart-flame Spanky double 10, and the 44 on a Depthraider. Firetiger or Miller Perch on the Depthraiders.

Water was pretty dirty/brown most everywhere, but we didn't run into a lot of bloom issues other than where the wind was blowing into Obabikon bay.

Fishing was tough but another great trip at Mylie's! Highly recommended for a nice clean place to stay.

Just got back from Mylie`s today - best place to stay SUPER clean resort
Didn't fish Saturday raining wife said NO - Sunday had heavy fog till almost 11 in the morning late start. had some wind all week, a few guys said they moved fish after 8 @ night - I fished only till 6-7 pm did better in afternoons after lunch
I didnt travel far from Mylies all week
Fishing was a bit slow - caught a fish everyday nothing bigger than a nice thick 44 ( first fish of trip lol )
Water was very stained - algae bloom starting also
Very hard to see any follows unless they were very hot on the lure
I fish mainly rocks banging (Depth raider ) perch - then switched mid week to weeds ( spinner baits for the rest of my fish ) didn`t see many fish on rocks late in the week.
I would say you`ll be hitting them just right going to turn on like mad soon for sure ( gotta eat )
Hope this helps you some - I throw depth raiders 90% of the time so my report might not help you much
Good luck you`ll be fine

I did well on bucktails (mostly kramer bros but some on dadsons) and had some success in the evenings on surface baits (caught 3 and had a chance at one or more every night using tsunamis and lake x lures). Spinner baits and bobbie baits were good choices among others in my group. I even caught one on a warlock...that was a first for me.

Most of the days, it seemed like the fish were up tight to the shoreline or cruising sunken points on various islands. They also seemed clustered and had narrow feeding windows. Of my 17 fish, 8 were caught in pairs less than 20 minutes apart. It reminded me alot of Vermilion where the fish were either on or off, not much in between. You could go hours without seeing one, then see 2 very aggressive fish and have a chance at both. I got lucky and usually caught both this week.

Bull rushes/rock combination was also quite good.

Going up one last time(This year!!) to try and salvage some of my season and dedicate some time to actual productive fishing instead of the last trip where I was basically just a tour guide!! heard water temps are 66-68 range and falling slowly, has potential, but we will see how it shakes out. Be up Monday the 12th - Fri. the 16th... any new "secret spots"? we have 10 fish off just one of your spots you gave me last year!

Fished last week out of Split Rock Lodge for my first trip to the LOTW's. We had a great time. I will def return to Split Rock and as you all already know, LOTW's is a special place. Fishing was tough. We only caught 6 Muskie and two 35inch Pike. All were mid to upper 30's and not much of a pattern. 2 off straight shorelines, 2 off a rock island and 2 in the back of real shallow weedy bays. We spent a lot of time targeting rocky points off mainland or islands, but had little luck. We did have 3 follows of very large fish near the 50 inch mark. Double 10's were not moving fish at all for us. We caught one on top water and the others were all on jointed cranks.

Even with the small fish, I'm so glad we went there. LOTW's is amazing by itself!

I was there from 9/2 to 9/8.........Poor..........few follows, one 46 and one 41 three under 40 and that's it for a week and we fished hard. Tried shallow, deep, weeds ect.

Good luck, going back the 22nd for another try.

Well one last time for me Sept. 23-30. I hope the shallow move is on by the big girls, but the way this year has been, who knows. Either shallow or slow moving dogs on second breaks is the strategy for this trip. A full report upon return.

Just got back yesterday. Took 2 night long weekend trip. Topwater and cranks got all the action. Only had 1 follow on bucktails. Saw 20 fish in the 2 days. Caught 2 38's and 2 over 30 pike. Pulled the tooth out of a jaw on a crank on a big one. Had a giant hit a bulldawg in the head and pulled a chunk out of it and tore up leader...no hooks. A couple swings and misses on topwater and several follows on topwater that didn't commit. All fish 10 feet or less as expected. Tried some deep breaks but nothing. Water temp 62-64. Algae bloom was not an issue at all. Least amount i've seen in the last 3 Septembers. Going through sunset channel last year you were driving on a matt of algae...not even close to that this year. Conditions are prime and the fish are shallow.
