This older gentleman who I met while trout fishing near his home in the early spring season sent me this email.  It just happened to him.

Hi Jason,

Went fishing last Thursday, and had a bad day on the lake.
I was going to take the old man that lives down the road from us 2 miles, since he call and asked if I could take him, I said sure it would be a good day for him to go, He is 91 and is getting a little forgetful, and has some dementia.
I loaded the boat with a cooler of ice ,soda's, bait, and went to get him, when I got their he had changed his mind and did not want to go.
This entire scenario took about 25 minutes, I hope as I get older  I don't develop this symptomatic way to senility.
So sine he did not want to go now and the boat was loaded  I went anyway took the dog with me, was having fun catching blue gill and crappie on my ultra-light gear with a two 00 split shot with four pound test stren with half a night crawler for bait, and I was catching 8 to 9 inch gills just having a good time, I was casting up by a  pontoon boot  and dragging it back real slow, and crash a nice musky grabbed it, took out about ten yards of line then came back at me ,he worked in to within about 5 yards of the boat, then turned and was ripping line off my reel as he jumped, at this point he had my ultra-light bent double, the fish looked to be about a 30 to 35 inches not real big but all you would want plus 5 pounds on that ultra-light gear, he turned and came toward the boat to within about 10 feet out from me, and jumped again, at that point the line broke about 5 inches above the hook, and that two 00 split shot came straight back and impacted me in the mouth. I should not have been smiling about having that fish on. the split shot broke off  one tooth  just above the gum line and cracked the one next to it. I was spitting out tooth fragments and blood for the next ten minutes, the nerve of the tooth was exposed so it was giving me some pain, so I asked the dog if he wanted to go home and he said yes and we headed for the boat landing.

Got to the boat landing, and there is a @#$%^&* security person writing me a ticket for using two spaces to park my trailer, that coast me 5 bucks.
the rest of the trip home was uneventful.

Went to the dentist, He did a root canal, got that done he put a temporary crown on the tooth so I don't look like something out of HEE-HAW , have two more appointments to get a temp post and crown then two weeks later a permanent steel post and crown.

The root canal cost me $400.00 and he gave me an estimate of $803.00 to complete the rest of the job,
so fare that fishing trip to the local lake has cost me $1208.00 counting the parking ticket.

Being of Scotch-Irish decent the real pain to me is the monetary one, not the one in my mouth, Anna said I will have to start wearing a mouth piece when I go fishing if I cant be trusted to come home with all my teeth.

I can almost feel my upper lip now .

Bill

Oh man! I'm still laughing at that one! Especially when he casually asked the dog if he wanted to go home. Too funny. Just happy it wasn't me.

Well, considering what muskie fishing has cost me so far, he's still getting off cheap and even got the fish to the boat! "bad day" I guess, is a relative term. Good for him though for wanting to take an old man fishing. I hope when I get that old someone will come to get me with their boat (and remind me that I ENJOY fishing!). m
