New Tranx HG. I have the cast control turned as tight as it will go and also have all the brakes popped out. It is just barely enough tension for a large Suick. Anyone else have this problem?

It takes time for the brakes to wear in. It will get better.
You may not have the access plate tight. Make sure it's closed completely.

I've never messed w the brakes inside the reel... just simply using the spool tensioner and have had zero issues casting blades or rubber w both of mine....

Same for me as with BNelson. Your thumb is a useful addition as well as not trying to throw baits as hard as possible.

For blades and rubber breaks 1/2 on 1/2 off. Rest thumb on spool

Half on half off most of the time. Make sure you don't have the spool overfilled with line.

To the original poster - can you explain what you mean by it isn't enough?

Some are still going by the school of thought of adjusting the tension till it will hold the bait you're casting from falling to the floor. I don't think most musky reels will adjust the tension that high for most musky baits.

If you're not able to adjust things enough to keep from getting backlashes or feel the brakes working, then that's odd.

The only baits I have backlash issues with are suicks and its due to their design. When you cast them out you will notice they flutter in the wind like a sail. You really have to be aware of the wind and thumb the spool more than you normally would.

I was going to add that as well... imo the tranx is not the reel I would use for a suick...far better reel choices for suicks imo... HG to me is for big rubber and blades..that is about it..

I find the HG to be my preferred Suick reel for 10" and 12"
