Location: Madison, WI | Ok, guys.
With all the recent talk about people's biggest fishing pet peeves - here's mine...
People who don't know how to pronounce the word "rapala."
Do you pronounce it like...
1. Rah-PAULA
Or
2. WRAP - ala
Inquiring minds want to know...
We had to get a famous musky guide on the phone tonight to help settle this dispute, but the losing party still doesn't want to admit that he was wrong.
I'm not mentioning any names.
Thanks in advance for weighing in on this.

Location: MN | The correct way is #2 as said on their site and it has been that way from the beginning. My grandpa was fishing buddies with the guy that brought rapala to the United States.
He told me a story about being heckled by some guides at a fishing dock for using such silly baits before the rapala became popular and when they came in with a boat full of fish the guides were eating their words and wanted to know where they could buy the bait. |

Surprisingly few, actually... I'm ashamed to admit. |

| So it goes:
Rapala = RAP-uh-luh
Shimano = SHIH-mah-no
Abu Garcia = A-boo GAHR-see-uh
right? (where 'ah' sounds like the 'a' in 'car', 'ih' sounds like the 'i' in 'pick', and 'uh' sounds like the 'u' in 'cup') |

Was there any question on how to pronounce Abu Garcia? |

| In a previous career, I spent a fair amount of time in Ireland and was invited to tour the Rapala assembly/packaging facility. While the locals had the normal Irish accent, the pronunciation was spot on (as per their web site above). And yes, they do indeed hand test/tune every bait... |
