| Hello everyone
I'm looking for some advice on a rod for big Big Topwater/Cranks, and primarily glide-baits. I already have a 9ft MH rod for blades + smaller topwater / cranks, So I need a rod for larger baits and glides.
-Baits will be 2.2oz (Jackpot) to 8.5oz (10" smuttly dog) so at-least XH
-Rod needs to be 8' to preserve casting distance on non-glides
-Needs to be affordable (student)
The two rods I've been able to find that meet this description are the 8' XH compre, and the 8' XH premier. I tried them both in store and the premier didn't seem to balance right (compared to the compre / my TI) and was very tip heavy. The compre on-the-other-hand seemed like it might be a little overrated, and might not be able to handle the 8-9oz baits (and possibly mag-dogs in the future).
I'm open to any suggestions/input.
Thanks,
Adam |

| I would go would a TI 9 foot XH, i use the XXH for 8" weagles and 8-10" phantoms no problem, but its a bit stiff for the smaller stuff, so the xh should be awesome for what you are looking for. |

Location: Contrarian Island | personally I don't consider a glide bait rod a rod I would / do use for multi purpose. I have one rod that I ONLY throw baits that go side to side with....gliders, zig zag toppies etc... used an 8' All Star for 15 yrs but have been using an 8' St Croix top n tail this year and have had good results... |

Ha-ha I've got a 7' all star. Stiff as a pool cue. |

| 8' MH ToothTamer will extremely versatile, or the 8'6" Extra Heavy is tops. Both very good! Priced right, great balance.
My 2-cents.

| 8'6" mojo musky XH or 9' XXH ti. I'm my mind you have to get the rod and reel for the use it will do 95% of the time and not worry about trying to get a multi purpose rod... If it works for other lures great but the make it most effective at heavy gliders because your lacking in that field would be my concern. |

| Don't forget that a higher speed reel will optimize jerkbaits. |

| Wow Thanks for all the awesome replies / suggestions.
After reading through everyones replies I concur with BNelson.
I think I need a rod thats exclusively for jerks/glides. I already have a 9' rod and have
trouble working them well with it (the boat I fish in rides low).
It also helps that I managed to find a 10'6 4-12oz surf rod on craigslist for $20 today for the big gear.
I especially like Ross Ks suggestion of the tooth-tamer. I'm from Canada so I was unaware of them- but even after shipping those seem like a great deal. How are they weighted? How do they compare with TI's? (I have a 9' mh I love). I'm looking at the 8' heavy but am worried that it may be light for 8oz smuttlys/bigwood.
The other option I have at hand is to take an 8'6 Abu Volatile and hackoff 6 inches off the top- the only problem being I hate the grip on that rod.
And Fishysam, I have a Lexa300HS that I will be sharing with the 9ft MH until I can rub enough sheckles together to gear up.
TLDR:
I have a 9ft HM, a 10'6 XH, and I need a jerk/glidebait rod thats cheap,light,7'6-8ft |

| Get the XH 8 ft premier. A little extra tip for casting smaller baits and is, in my opinion, the perfect length for a glide bait rod. The TI is nice but not a glide bait rod, The tip is too soft for "finesseing" a bigger glide bait. |
