Something I have been wondering for some years now. Not a big deal but more of a curiousity.

Why is the steering wheel in a boat on the right side and on the left in a car?

Is it because the throtle is then controled by the boat drivers right hand? Only reason I could think of.

Torque of the prop lifting the right(starboard) side of the boat? I think I heard this somewhere.

The throttle is the major issue. There are lots of center consoles out there, too.
