Hypothetically: If a cold front comes through and drops temps 10+ degrees, does it matter how many days go by without a weather change to bring the fishing back? Say you are fishing 4 days after the front and the temps are still cool, are the fish any more active than they are the day after the front? If so, or if not, are there any specific tactics that work in these conditions? The reason I ask is that we leave for Canada this coming Friday, and the forecast says that the temps will drop about fifteen degrees Tuesday night. The extended forecast (which could obviously change) does not call for any significant weather or temp. change until the next Wed. I have heard that three days after any major change brings the fish back to normal, I hope this is true. I know the expert musky guys on this board can help me out. Thanks in advance.

It will usually take a couple days for the Muskies to get active again, but not always. It depends a lot too on where you are fishing, the water clarity, and so on. Rivers, for instance, are not affected as much as lakes and clear water seems to be affected more than dark water. I'm not totally sure why either, but that is what I've observed over the years.

All that aside, I wouldn't stay off the water just because the conditions are not great for catching fish. It always seems best to slow things down and try get the lure in the fishes face. I like to use something like a slow moving spinner bait and go right into the weeds or structure after them. You might not see twenty fish in a day that way, but you might still catch one or two.

Good luck.
