I inadvertently picked up a quantum exo300 5.3:1 wondering if it would be okay for throwing blades, #7 #8 #10? Good idea? Bad idea?

I have had one for a couple of years in 6 gears. It would be fine for 7s and 8s. Don't know how well it would hold up with 10s over time though. They are good reals just super light.

I have the same reel, and use it for up to #8 blades. You could throw 10's with it occasionally, but it works really well with, and is better suited for small to med size baits. The cast control can be a bit finicky, but overall a really nice, lightweight reel.

FWIW I love my 200 SPT (6.3:1). I mainly use it for #8s, but that's more a rod limitation, and the fact that I've got plenty of other rods/reels for the bigger stuff.

I don't think you'd have any problems using that 300 for what you want. And if you do, there's a warranty. You can wonder if it'll be okay to the point that it collects dust, or you can tie one on and find out.
