Hello, I'm looking for some advice on choosing a good "all around" rod for musky fishing. I understand each power / action rod has it's purpose but I'm just looking to dive in and get started with one setup that would generally handle all types of baits.

Some info:
-I'll mainly be fishing from a kayak. (Not sure I would benefit from anything over 8' as ill be really low to the water)
-Lake St Clair is my local lake I'll be on most of the time.
-Baits I already own (Larger plastics, believers, Several other jointed hard baits)

I have been looking at the Mojo Musky / Compre lines, But would like to choose the best power and action that would suit me for a good "all arounder". The plan is to pair whatever rod I choose with a Cardiff 401A (Any other reel recommendations would be welcome)

Cheers.

I have an 8' Mojo in XH that sounds perfect for your application. It has a relatively short handle making it more ergonomic in a kayak. Good stiff rod for rubber also.

I have a 8' mojo in medium heavy that I would use from my kayak as I do a lot of kayak fishing. I would avoid the stiffest options because then would make me feel like to much power on a hookset but them not enough loaded up during the fight to be forgiving because a kayak will pull to the fish so easily.

A MH would never suit his needs for rubber. I've never set the hook and wished I had a softer rod. Combine a soft rod, instability and movement of a yak and it would be tough to move a dawg in the fish's mouth. Just my opinion

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Just by the weight ratings on the MH I'm guessing it would be a little underpowered for some of the baits.

tkuntz - On you recommendation did you mean the 8Ft Heavy rod? I don't see a XH in the 8foot mojos.

There isn't much hope on my end that any rod will move a pounder from a kayak on a reliable basis.

Valid point, I was just thinking that he would want any advantage possible for hooksets.
