Consolidated Musky Club Inc. will be stocking our Muskies(400) into Petenwell in Wood County this Monday, 4/18/16. We were able to procure yearling fish at 14-16", which will equate to much better survival. We'll also be stocking another section that day, for a total of $5500.00 in Muskies. We also plan to stock another $5,000.00 in fall fingerlings in September or October. With that, in addition to the 550 fingerlings stocked last September in Nekoosa, the future does look bright.
Thank you to all who have been supporting the club for the past several years, as you are the reason that this flowage Musky population was resurrected in the 1980's and continues to be maintained.

12 Apostles is putting 350 into Point Flowage today, and I'll be helping Wisconsin League of Musky Anglers put 200 into DuBay tomorrow.

Location: north central wisconsin | Thanks to all who came out yesterday. Other than having to alter our stocking locations on the flowage based on H20 temps, everything went very well. The DNR was able to fin clip the fish in one area with the help of the UWSP fisheries society members who we invited to take part, and several folks who have never witnessed a stocking, were able to not only watch, but help release the for us.

| I don't know if I will ever fish Petenwell, but as someone who grew up in Wis. Rapids in the 1950s and 60s, it is amazing to me to see there is a viable musky fishery there now.
The river was so bad back then that nothing much grew there besides bullheads and carp. I shot a mallard in the late 1960s on a slough off the flowage by Petenwell back that when I cooked it, smelled so much like mill waste, had to throw it away. You folks are to be congratulated on helping bring back a body of water that 40 years ago was all but dead.
When the kids of today are old like me, they will have folks like you to thank for the fun they have fishing the river.

Location: Already Gone | I've been fortunate to fish both the Pete and Castle Rock, and the river areas between for many many years.
For a few reasons I have very fond memories of this area...they are unique bodies of water that I really enjoy, and for me they are close to home. There's some nice fish to be found in the right places.

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | North of 8 - Its got some very nice fish in there, thanks to the efforts of Jason and others, including Todd Forcier and the Petenwell Muskie Challenge when it was alive & well...You wouldn't recognize the water today. It proves that a polluted river system can be cleaned up, but there's still a lot in the sediment, and fishing for all species is very good. You can break 50" on the Pete & Castle Rock..
However, there's still to much phosphorus from lawns fertilizers & farms getting into the river system, so there's a pretty good algae bloom in summer.

I intend on applying for a permit to stock castle this fall. Mark Saemisch group will also stock there with proceeds from his tournament held there in June. If all goes well we'll have 600-1000 fish coming on the same truck in September or October. |
